As a Charlotte resident the games at Clemson on 10/18 and Wake on 10/25 are great for me!

Plus I may go back to Dallas for the Miami game on 11/1.

From Charlotte, you also can easily drive to UNC, Dook, MooU, GT, UVA, and VT.

NCSU. Clemson is just Clemson. WE do not have any animus against Clemson, not close. So no names regularly used.

One of the oldest used UNC cheers is Duke is puke, Wake is fake, but the team I HATE is NC State.

That cheer also shows you why UNC fans tend to spell Duke as Dook. The standard NC and VA and upland SC pronunciation of the name and general noun 'duke' is a diphthong. So 'duke' indeed thymes with how most of American pronounces 'puke.' The new Yankee students coming to Dook in the 1950s all called the School Dook, so UNC fans began moching that with catcalls of Dooook at the fools with ugly accents cheering for that school.

The only other ACC school that UNC has a history of some kind of mocking name or sloganized cheer is UVA. It died out well before the 21st century, as far as I know, but UNC students used to hang a lot of posters up around games vs UVA of the Cavalier with his finger up up his nose and the caption: Wahoos Eat Buggers.

Also, there used to be some stuff with South Carolina. Always a vain stuttering roster revealed to be just another chicken. Original there was ondky 1 Carolina Colony, and the capital was Charleston and almost all, the money ws in what today is the SC Low Country. So the split into 2 colonies meant SC people from then on until point WW 2 had a view of NC as backwoods. So NC openly always poked at SC delusions of grandeur. Basically th same as poking at VA senes of superior grandeur.

Rivalries are fun and that's the one downside of SMU having joined the ACC. Our longest and most traditional rival, TCU, is now refusing to play us in both football and basketball. While Clemson still has South Carolina, Georgia Tech has Georgia, FSU has Florida and Pittsburgh has West Virginia as long standing non-conference rivals, we don't know what our future is going to be with TCU

Truth be told UT was the team we always wanted to beat. But everyone hated UT, the Whorns. Aggies were the brunt of every joke. Arkansas were the inbreds. Texas Tech- Sand Aggies. Baylor were pitied - no alcohol, no sex. Rice - no one hated because they weren’t a threat to anyone. TCU we hated

It literally took us getting the death penalty for the frogs to beat us in football. We had a win streak going from 1972 that wasn’t broken until post dp. I don’t think the rivalry ending is all on Sonny, I think the old guard alums want to keep their current 10 win advantage that took years of suckage by us to achieve. They see the writing on the wall and their fragile little brother Ft Worth egos can’t handle it.

Too bad really, because hate makes football fun.

I still get a kick any time I see Eric Dickerson say how much he always hated Texas.

Clemson and hotels

Postby BillgoCU » Mon Feb 03, 2025 11:00 pm

One other thing if you are planning on going to the Clemson game: You won't get a hotel in Clemson. And probably already booked out in neighboring small towns of Easley and Seneca. If you are flying in to Atlanta, might want to check Anderson, and if from Charlotte might want to check Greenville. Both towns have nice downtown areas. Greenville's is extra nice.

Flying to Charlotte and making Greenville home base is easily the best option.
