MustangIcon wrote:Hoop, do you take responsibility for anything? Or are you one of these people who push blame on anyone and everyone possible? Tubbs was the head basketball coach. His life was SMU basketball. He has to be responsible for things. Don't just say "once again, way to go SMU. Not enough support in place to be big time and then fire the coach over it." Yes, I would like for us to have great tutors and great academic support for the players but the coaching staff needs to be up to date on these matters and yes it falls on the feet of the head coach.
no, I am totally irresponsible. What is your point? That I need to lay the blame for players academic struggles at the feet of tubbs and expect him to get fired over it after two years? Sounds like a fixable offense to me and one the athletic department should backed Tubbs up on even if he wasnt cracking the whip hard enough.

Well that's not hard to do these days. My mind is easily frazzled, which probably explains a lot to everyone out there. Okay, if you do something that you and the coach think is legit at the time, and later you discover it was a violation, do you (1) turn the coach in for the violation that you helped create and get him fired; (2) keep your mouth shut and stop doing it; or (3) I can't think of anything else, whatever. It seems to me that (1) is the wrong choice if you truly have no agenda. Clearer?
Jt has been coming over for private lesson regarding hydroponics!!!!!!!!

Old Benjamin Petty. Haven't thought about him in a while. Must have been a general philosophy course that you took since Ethics and Logic are separate disciplines.
Hoop, you have lost it a little here of late. I'm mad too about how Tubbs was let go and I'm still waiting for a better explanation. But bagice had the post of the day, IMHO. It did go a ways to putting out my flaming pitchfork.

BTW, I appreciate the earlier "nod"--it's nice to be loved and admired by my peers.

I would say the NCAA would say you have to do (1), but that doesn't matter.
Ahhhh...But what if Max gave the money for X and Tubbs used it for Y?

Matt is going to have to earn his scholarship and I don't think Max is going to be able to run interference for his grandson. Matt for maybe the first time in his life is going to have to earn something on his own. We'll see if he is up to it or if he will quietly slip away claiming the ankle never healed properly. I for one hope he steps up and proves he can play at this level. God knows we need a 3pt shooter............
earn his scholarship? What does he have to do to "earn it", show up for practice? Doherty shouldnt have to deal with this at all. Matt and Max need to just pack up Matts stuff and move on whereever they like. SMU should give him a full release with no restrictions to go wherever he wants.

I forgot again. Other than allegedly having an a-hole for a grandfather, what did Matt ever do?

Okay, you read the artcles, and I thought he was quoted as saying he gave Tubbs money for Y and he used it for Y*. I guess I'd have to know what X was (no, not that X friar) before I could understand. When can a booster give a coach money to spend on players where it's not a violation?
*In this hypothetical, Y=burgers and Cheer.

Throw down on grandaddy all you want but Matt at least deserves a chance now that he is here. He's not the bad guy here - he didn't pick gramps - although he has enjoyed what gramps influence has done for him. I doubt seriously Matt is having much fun - you think he is Mr. Popular in the locker room? I doubt if he was even before all this crap - he being a rich boy who's grandaddy is a rich alum. I bet he is getting worn out in practice everyday........There are all kind of punishments. If Matt can take it and prove himself, fine. If not, what you are wanting will play out..............

Thats all. Thats his one and only fault. Can't you see why we are so eager to banish him?

Dont know for sure, what were the major infractions committed by Tubbs again? However, its fairly readily apparent that Matt is a rat and fed grandpa whatever information that led to all of this. I'm not saying Matt committed a crime, but life ain't fair now is it? Be a man Matt and walk away. i dont see how real teammates could trust the kid.
