I think NO is a slightly better media market than Memphis. 50-52. So, its a toss up. The downside is that Tulane competes with the Saints whereas the only pro football in Memphis is the UFL. We're in the #5 Media market and the Cowboys still dominate and people still wear burnt orange around Dallas.
UNC better keep that Ram away from Peruna

SMU has the most wins of any Texas FBS school since 2019. The first year pay for play was legalized and NIL was on its way. Go Mustangs!!!

Memphis has a ton of corporate money ( Fedex etc ) behind them
that Tulane does not. The community is also behind the Tigers. Win
win for the Big 12 imho but Yormark has never struck me as that
bright.

SMU succeeded with guaranteed billionaire-funding. Corporate dollarsΓÇöespecially publicly traded corporate dollarsΓÇöare not nearly so dependable, especially over a multi-year period. I havenΓÇÖt researched it but IΓÇÖd bet Tulane has at least a couple billionaires supporting them.orguy wrote:Memphis has a ton of corporate money ( Fedex etc ) behind them

The ΓÇ£communityΓÇ¥ evidence is debatable but certainly tilts toward Memphis. (Remember, IΓÇÖm just arguing the two are comparable.)
And in the end, IΓÇÖm glad SMU is playing Miami and Notre Dame while theyΓÇÖre both playing UAB and UNT.

Seriously!!! There are so many bad programs in the AAC these days. When it start 12 years ago, it had some legit programs and they made a good case for ΓÇ£Power 6ΓÇ¥.Dukie wrote:

Remember that before it was the AAC we thought we were joining the Big East and that alone helped us bring Larry Brown and some very special basketball seasons to SMUhighlander wrote:Seriously!!! Yep, looking back SMU has endured a lot of gut-punches. The D.P., the sneaky move of the Mountain West, the rise of TCU under Patterson, joining the Big East only to see it devolve into the AAC. Finally, the Football Gods decided enough and led us to the ACC and the CFP. Karma?

Good for them for trying though. Memphis is just a tough town.
Re: Memphis tries SMU-like pitch to Big 12, fails
Memphis has / had one donor, Fred Smith and FedEx...their version of the Mustang Club, the Highland 100, essentially raised about $250,000 last year, while they are ripping out 20% of the seats in the Liberty Bowl for a "party deck", all in one of the most dangerous cities in America, with a Tier III media market and a inconsistently interested fanbase...we can talk academic rankings if you want. Memphis is not an attractive school or market. If it was a choice between Memphis and Tulane for the ACC, and I hope it doesn't come to that, I'd reluctantly choose Tulane.
