I understand SMU has $9,000,000.00 raised/pledged toward the basketball practice facility. That is a "so far" amount... we may end up with a little "extra" to make a few cosmetic changes to Moody before the BIG Moody push is on. Not bad for an AD-elect who doesn't have his name on the door yet.

I've heard similar reports. The reality is, without the Doherty hiring, this project would have never gotten funded so quickly. Let's hope they break ground quickly and let the basketabll coaches use it as a recruiting tool.

We don't know if that's the case or not. Certainly it is an impetus, but there is nothing to say that Orsini couldn't have really turned up the heat for this once he came on board regardless of who the coach was. I think Orsini would have gotten it done.

punctuation?
Chances are the 12mil is for reno and the new practice facility. Turner [Construction] built the embrey building for 15mil, OTD, and I figure a practice facility is a lot simpler than the building housing RCAM. Although, I might be underestimating the cost of the facility.

I also have heard the fund-raising is going extremely well.
Let's hope the rumors are true.

Before Steve Orini, only $2M had been committed. By the time we got Doherty, it doubled to $4M. If it now $9M, the speed of progress is very impressive.

I was told by a very reliable source that a 5 million dollar donation was announced at the b-ball banquet just a couple of days ago, so it does appear that there is some legitimacy to the 9 million figure.

I meant to ask him but I didn't get a chance. He just mentioned it to me out of the blue.
