DMN: Coverage! Coverage! Coverage!

Post by McClown27 »

Last article was written 10 days ago (May 3). During that time, I count 15 stories that have been written about various UT teams. Pretty pathetic coverage from our "hometown" newspaper. Gee, I wonder why all the Dallas prospects want to play in Austin.

While I agree that UT gets more than its due share from The DMN, I would ask if any of those 15 stories about the Horns have anything to do with Softball or Baseball, sports in which SMU voluntarily took themselves out of the running?

Now, where is the golf and tennis coverage, though?

Nice job, McClown. Thanks for keeping up with that.

We've always got "SMU's Hometown Paper", The Herald Democrat (Sherman-Denison TX).

Excellent point. The mens' golf team just wound up its third consecutive conference championship, a first in school history. Anybody see THAT in the DMN? Maybe a nice feature, with photos??
No chance, baby.

Although, today, they did have a nice METRO section story about White Rock Lake that mentioned the womens' rowing team; had a color photo of the team in action.

Anybody see the caption on a recent Sportsday front page for the Byron Nelson? It mentioned the tournament takes place in "Longhorn country".

Gee, they moved it to Austin?

to be fair, we don't play baseball and we didn't have anyone drafted in the 1st round...so I guess there's not too much to write about where SMU is concerned

Most of the UT stories were about their schedule for the upcoming years. I would think they could reciprocate one story about our future schedule. Can't imagine the Atlanta Journal Constitution pulling a 15 story UGA advantage over Tech.

GaTech hasn't had one winning season in the last 15 years in football or been to one NCAA tournament since 1993 either.

Check out the link, it typlifies the DMN's treatment of SMU fans. Another day without coverage.

Just curious McClown. Would your head explode if the DMN did a feature story on the building of a basketball practice facility?

Clippers made it to the playoffs this year without a practice facility.

I don't care if they build it. I just think it is ridiculous if we act like it is gonna help our win/loss record or recruiting. After Ford, we know that facility upgrades don't really help in those areas. The practice facility will be really nice for the players. That is the positive side of the upgrades. If Moody is also renovated, it will be great for the fans.

Actually, the Clippers do have a first-rate practice facility. So do the Mavs, the Lakers, the Bulls, the Pistons, and probably every team in the NBA.

You're right, it will be good for the fans. But I've got to believe you're too smart to think we'd have gotten DeMyron Martin or any of the other most highly-touted guys on our roster if we were still playing in Ownby Stadium. When basketball recruits are intentionally kept out of the locker rooms on recruiting visits, the facilities are a liability. The pending upgrade is vital to the health of the program.

The Clippers are one of the few teams not to at least have a practice facility in their arena. The team shares Staples Center in downtown Los Angeles with the NBA's Lakers and NHL's Kings. They previously practiced at a variety of sites, most recently at a health club in El Segundo, Calif.

We recruit the same athletes that we did before Ford. Ask Stallion.

All of you fall for the facilities upgrade kool-aid of this administration. Sure, they will be nice, they just won't get the kids we need in the door.
