It seems that putting two feathers on the nickname Tribe went too far and the NCAA has banned William and Mary from hosting NCAA competitions or using the logo in championships. William and Mary will appeal the ruling.
In his letter to alums, the College President wrote:
The NCAA's varied interpretations of mascot policy -- what it allows and what it rejects -- are impossible to comprehend or justify. It is unsurprising, therefore, that the U. S. Congress is considering taking the matter out of the Association's hands. It remains my belief that the William and Mary athletic program should be touted as a national model for unparalleled academics and athletics.
Actually William and Mary got approval from the Chicohominy and Pumunkey Tribes of Virginia. I guess Illinois and the Dakotas will have to change their state names and the U.S. and Canada will have to negotiate a treaty to change the name of Lake Huron. And the NCAA said, the word Tribe is not offensive, just the feathers on the logo make it offensive. What a bunch of idiots.
I guess if we put feathers on Peruna, we'd be in big trouble, too. What about the Jayhawks and the Gamecocks... feathers. Rice Owls... nail'em. Air Force... violation! All of these feathers offend me for sure.
