Top 100 bballers in Michigan (Dec 2005)
http://www.freep.com/apps/pbcs.dll/arti ... 048/SPORTS
22. William Eddie, 6-1, junior, Detroit Cass Tech. Few players had a better summer than Eddie. He can get to the basket any time he wants and he has improved his shot so he can knock down open three-pointers. His best attribute is his ability to get his hands on so many passes and disrupt an offense. He has a good understanding of the game.

so this is an oral committment for the class of 2007? If he is a junior he cannot sign until November at the earliest. #22 ranked player in Michigan sounds impressive, Michigan has alot of talent most years, but his other offers do not suggest he is highly recruited.

For a kid of this caliber (i.e. not a superstar), most of the college bball powers IMO would wait until the AAU circuit after the kid's junior year to make an official offer, and the amount of interest would depend on how he performed that summer. Evidently he performed well last summer and perhaps Doherty wanted to get him committed to SMU now and not risk the kid blowing up big-time on the AAU circuit this summer and then getting offers from the big dogs.

Not certain how good the kid is but looks to be someone who can definitely help SMU: quick, good defense, knows how to run a team. Outside shot seems somewhat of a question mark. Doherty IIRC does have a pretty good rep as a talent eveluator/projecting talent into the future so time will tell

Is this the kid in the golf cart? And would he not project to Top 10 in Michigan for 2007 since there are 13 seniors in front of him?

Underclassmen currently only make up two of the top 25, but I see your point.

Glad to see us making strides in recruiting so quickly. 22nd in the state of michigan as a junior seems pretty impressive to me especially considering most in front of him are seniors. He must be a pretty impressive floor general considering his high ranking without scoring a bunch like most guards ranked highly do. I'm guessing he fits the "P-H-S" , pass-handle-shoot, type that Doherty likes as he said in the other article. Thanks for the scoop dcpony.

My favorite comment about him:

On Saturday Central Michigan University hired William Eddie Jr. as an assistant coach. Rumors from Detroit are that William III will follow his dad to CMU.
Try not to choke on the Kool-Aid.

From August 11th edition of Detroit News

"College basketball

New Central Michigan men's coach Ernie Zeigler named William Eddie Jr. an assistant coach.

Eddie is co-founder of the Team Detroit AAU program and has served as its president since 1992. He also coached the team from 1992-97.

Eddie served as a scout for the Atlanta Hawks last season.

He served as an assistant coach at Detroit Cody from 1976-88, and has coached junior high boys and girls at Alonzo W. Bates Academy in Detroit.

Eddie played at Northern Michigan, and earned a degree in education from that school in 1976."

Solid list of basketball schools there. Michigan does put out a lot of quality players (Corey Santee is a good example). Given the state of the TCU men's program, maybe I'll have to become an SMU bball fan.
