Josh LeRibeus

Josh LeRibeus kind of reminds me of former Texas OG Will Allen. He's not quite as tall, and his arms aren't quite as long, but I'm not sure he's done growing, either. Like Allen, LeRibeus is very physical, a brawler-style blocker. He's strong, but will get a lot stronger as he matures physically. He has good-but-not-great technique, which will improve with experience and with the teaching of Ronnie Vinklarek, a highly respected offensive line coach. LeRibeus is a very intelligent player who looks for people to block after finishing off his man. Most of his power is in his lower body, giving him a strong base and good balance. He's not the quickest lineman, but makes up for a lack of footspeed with a relentless motor. He needs to get stronger and into better overall condition, but he has very good potential. Will benefit enormously from a redshirt year.

Bring in 5 more and let Chuck re-build them into a super fine blocking machine.

I can not say how happy I am to see this as the first player for SMU. If he can get the QB and the other lineman to come to SMU, that is fantastic.

Now I do remember that you can have too many linemen but every recruiting class should be 35 to 40% linemen. IMHO. 8 to 12 a year.

32 to 40 on the roster at all times
5 x 3 = 15
4 x 3 = 12
so thats 27 and another 9 or so red shirted. You get what I want to see.

Go SMU, Go Bennett and build a TEAM.

Another article on LeRibeus from Rivals

Postby me@smu » Thu Jun 01, 2006 10:19 am

Regardless of his commitment to SMU, Richardson (Texas) Berkner offensive guard Josh LeRibeus is still piling up more scholarship offers. That's not to say it's making a difference.

Josh LeRibeus' two new offers didn't do much to sway him on his commitment.
Recently, LeRibeus added offers from Utah and San Diego State. The 6-foot-3, 321-pounder is not wavering in the slightest. LeRibeus says that nothing is going to change his mind.

"I'm solid, I mean it's pretty cool to get more offers," LeRibeus said. "They knew about my commitment and still offered. That kind of surprised me. That doesn't mean I'm looking around though."

LeRibeus says that not only did he fall in love with SMU from the beginning but the city of Dallas, Texas as well.

"I just like the place and figured that after college, I would want to spend my life in Dallas," LeRibeus said. "It just felt like the perfect place to be for school."

Considering all the attention and the fact that LeRibeus was not leaning anywhere before making his decision, he says that he thinks he may have surprised the staff when he called them up.

"I guess it did," he said about committing to SMU and their surprised reaction. "They were thrilled about it. I just told them there isn't anything people can show me to sway me. I'm just going to be going to their camp this summer if I don't go see my dad."

Hope Josh plans to hit the phones, helping to recruit other players (and recruit other players at the camp!)

This kid just sounds like a good guy, aside from being a good football player. Just the kind of guy to build a line around.

I met Josh today, and he's a very impressive guy. Bigger than I thought. Rivals lists him as 6-3, 321. I'm 6-2, and I definitely was looking up at the guy. I'd guess he's at least 6-4. Hard to say about the weight, but he's very solid. He said he committed early because he "just fell in love with SMU -- it was the right place." He confirmed the other offers listed, and said that for a while, other schools continued to call, but he kept telling them he was coming to SMU. Eventually, coaches from other schools backed off, saying "if you ever change your mind...." He said he's looking forward to taking his official visit to SMU in the fall, and sounded very enthusiastic and excited about coming to SMU and playing for the Ponies. Again -- extremely impressive young man.

Please bring 5 more just like him to the Pony's team. Then 3 DT's like Charles and 3 DE's over 250 and yes, they all have to be smart and very quick.

Go Mustangs.
