I think these appearances at Mavs events could in a small way help us in keeping Doherty here, assuming he is successful in turning things around. You can tell he's a goal-setter, and fancies himself as someone who can achieve lofty goals. You know that his wheels must set to turning while at the AAC, envisioning something like what St. John's gets when it plays a few games at MSG or when Seton Hall plays a game at he Meadowlands, or 'Nova at the (wherever the Sixers play). An SMU team fresh off an NCAA appearance and an ensuing promising year plus bring the Horns or TxTech to town...or hell even UNC, put 'em in the AAC and...well maybe I'm ahead of myself a little bit. But I'm sure Doherty has thought about it.

Coach D showing up at Mavs games not only is good at keeping him here, but it's also good at keeping him in touch with Mark Cuban.

Matt Doherty did a great job tonight. I still can't believe we have someone of his caliber! I had several phone calls from people that saw him, and everyone thought he was very impressive!
They even played Peruna when introducing him. Absolutely great.
Sir, shooting-star, sir.

BTW since nobody mentioned it he did answer one question of interest from the Host saying that SMU is not intendingto add any Junior College players or really any more recruits this late in the year. They plan to go with what they have. I really think this is the best thing to do in this situation rather than taking the 92nd best player in the State of Texas. There ain't anybody left. Seriously. Hopefully he will keep those spots and be in position to nab a couple of Division 1A transfers who have to sit out anyway. My take is that if he goes the Division 1A route this program COULD with good recruiting we seem to expect from Doherty be stabalized quickly. If we don't go that route I see a long rebuilding scenario where we have not yet hit bottom and we will have to start to rebuild the foundation with 2007 high schoolers-so we might make the NIT by 2010 or so.
