I did not say it would be successful. In fact I said the attempt was vain and pathetic. None the less, that does not mean that the motivation of the poster was not as I said. 8)

C'mon Alex--this is not a rumor. This is one insane TCU homer's fantasy that he happened to vomit onto a Texas Tech board. I'll say this again--there is NO WAY, NO HOW that USM will ever get added to the SEC.

There is also no way that the SEC schools would make the same mistake of adding another private school (i.e Tarrant County U) who can't draw the number of ticket sales that the power state schools can. A couple of breakout seasons isn't going to instantly do that for the toads. Believe me, if the SEC could find a way to get rid of Vandy, they would. If you ask the average LSU, Bama, Auburn, Florida, or Tennessee fan where TCU is located, they would say "TCWho?" :D

TCU sux.

It just means that the original poster presumes that. Or, I am proposing that the motive of the poster was that. 8)

That is the truth!!! SEC fans don't care about TX football teams, their focus is really on LSU and to the east...poor Arkansas is usually forgotten about b/c they are just so dang far away from the rest of the schools.

TCU in the SEC, what a joke...at least this thread was good for some laughs

All of the CUSA east schools hike their skirts up to the BE, and TCU waves its hindquarters to every conference in America. They've been lets see in the SWC, WAC, CUSA, and now the MWC. They are the Elizabeth Taylor of college sports. Its only natural that they'd mention the SEC, its a conference they haven't been in yet.

If they want to be in a more eastern conference, I'm sure the Sun Belt would take them!

I have to laugh at the irony of the fact that they hate coach Fran for shopping and leaving for a better gig and yet they have been doing the same thing. They dispise Fran for his lack of loyalty yet where is TCU's loyalty? They are off at the drop of a hat if a "prettier girl", aka conference, smiles at them.

Only if they're mentally [deleted]. People over here are always bantering about the idea of expansion, however un-seriously they may be, but the simple fact that UH, SMU and TCU have no real fan support or largestateschool feeling is what kills the idea.
Southern, Texan, American - in that order.

One can speculate about TCU's fate. However, one would be hard press to come up with a logical explanation why Ole Miss and MSU would allow USM into the SEC. USM would be elevated to major conference status and old Miss and MSU would gain nothing except another in state competitor. USM is the largest university in Mississippi and Ole Miss and MSU gain nothing by USM entrance into the SEC.

A very bogus post from a guy who has been banned repeatedly on killerfrogs for posting this kind of trash.

No TCU is not in "talks with the SEC" and any legit Frog fan knows that. One thing I will dispute in this thread is that the Frogs do travel pretty well given our size.

Best of luck to you guys against Tech, take 'em down.

Hardly a fair characterization. We didn't leave the SWC, they left us. We left the WAC, but only after the marquee teams bolted for the MWC. Same with the CUSA. I doubt our move would have been made at all if Louisville, Cincy, et al had stayed. Moves by other schools always have necessitated our making some difficult decisions. I would argue that you did the same when you moved from the WAC to CUSA.

Now on point to subject of the thread, it's pretty much [deleted], something to talk about during the summer. Good luck this year, I'll make a game or 2

SMU-UH-SEC

Post by Topper »

If it were true that the SEC was flirting with TCU- who could blame TCU?
In the last 20 years there were rumors cropping up, once or twice, that the SEC was interested in bringing in SMU and U of H. Two reasons:
Access to the Dallas and Houston TV markets and access to recruiting in two metropolitan areas with more people than several of the states in the SEC. There was little concern that SMU and U of H had little fan support in their home towns. They wanted in on the Texas gravy train of viewers and high school stars. Miss State and Ole Miss actually sponsored U of H for membership back before they went into the SEC. Nothing came of it because LSU and some others were opposed.

In the current environment, I would say that the SEC is more interested in ridding itself of Vanderbilt than it is in bringing in a couple of small schools from Texas. Conference alignments are sure to shake up dramatically again within the next few years. The question is whether or not SMU will position itself to make the most of it.

I am in frequent contact with the (until he retired last year) head of Crimson Tide Sports Marketing (since he is my father-in-law). Does that make me "in talks with the SEC" too?

My father in law is a Georgia Tech grad and I'll see him this weekend, I guess that puts me in talks with the ACC.
