Let's try our best to keep this relatively clean so this thread won't get deleted. LH68 has been kind to post on this board and, more importantly, to miss a UT game to attend our game vs. Tulane.

Diamond Girl! Thank you for pointing that out... This will be THE FIRST Texas Longhorn home game Mr. LHF68 will have missed since moving to Austin back in '97-'98 (his frosh year at "The University of")... and I think that that is a cause for a minor celebration. Why?

You can make a Mustang fan out of anyone. Remember that...

LF68 and I are rounding up a posse to roll into NOLA. None of whom - besides myself - are "SMU-ers". This is gonna' be fun.

If you call the scrimmage against Sam Houston State a game, then yes, I'll be missing the game.

Yes, please keep posting info here so we can get a good idea of who all is interested in doing what.

So, we like, gonna do this thing - or what?

Anyone have any NOLA bar preferences to make the officially-unofficial SMU headquarters? If not, I'm just gonna start calling places.

Uh yeah... so, let's start by getting a head count of who's going. Here's what I know from reading the thread, etc. -

Those who (in some cases "seemed" to) have officially commited:

ThadFilms + 1 - 5 friends
LonghornFan68 + Fiance
PonySoprano
Current STUDent
JesuitPony
WorldStang
couch 'em
Diamond Girl

Partial commitments:

RGV Pony + Fam (only beforehand)
mrydel
Sam I Am + 10
DiamondM75 + Alumni Band

That's about 56 folks so far - if you put RGV and fam at five and DM75 and band at 18, and add one extra person for each attending.

LF68, any more folks that have hit you with a PM that aren't on this list?

I know that are plenty more people going, and of course the Mustang Club will have an event beforehand, but probably not afterwords. We do this before and after - it could be the spot for SMU fans after game. Let's just hope we win. Tulane will be on an emotional high, but we have to pay them back for last year.

If we decide to do this we can do this - it's just saying let's do it.

Webdudes - can we get your two cents on this? I think we should make this an "official" PonyFans.com event. No need for you Admins to take the lead on this one, just throw the PF.com weight behind it.

To that end - do we have a PonyFans.com banner? And if not, why not?

Also, would some of our sponsors/advertisers be willing to partially sponsor the event? We could print up special banners for the event. I don't mind doing the photoshop work, and you can get pretty decently priced banners from Signs to Go (or whatever they are called).

What about the SpecialDelivery folks, you guys planning to go?

Plus, I can design some PonyFans.com SMU v. Tulane Party in the Quarter tee shirts. We can jack up the price 10 - 20 bucks over cafepress.com's cost. Use all of that money for the party as well.

Sell advance $10 tickets... actually that might not work, because then we would have to man the door/hire someone to man the door. Checking "tickets" selling "tickets". Probably not a great idea. Thoughts?

In any case, if we are going to do anything "official" we should have all of this set a full month in advance so it means getting to work.

Are we doing this?

I'm still in, plus 3-4 from my tailgate group are definite candidates to attend.

I have no specific preference on a bar as the pre/post-game gathering place.

Screw that, according to most SMU grads I know, I should be their maid or some crap because I went to UT. Sounds like some SMU should be ponying up for my drinks. Pun intended.

Haha - those signs were the best.

I still remeber being scared for my life when a fight broke out at the cotton bowl between SMU and Longhorn fans - back in the old "Cadillac Classic" days. Man it was hot that day too, I had to move under the shade. I was a wuss when I was a kid.

Okay, insert the "aren't you still a wuss" joke here.

Anyhow the dudes that were fighting... they were sooooo hammered. (I think that was the first time I really saw drunk people.) Yelling and screaming as the cops took 'em down and escroted them out in handcuffs.

It's such a strong memory. It feels recent. but heck that was prolly '83, '84, or '85... somesuch.

There is a place I know of in the quarter that served as the OU fan HQ when they played in the Sugar Bowl for the BCS title. They let them have the run of the place, complete with OU banners out front etc...no small feat considering the opponent was LSU.

I can do some digging & find out the name and location of the place within a few days...to this point, to be honest, I figured someone else was on top of it. The bash is someone else's baby, and I don't like stepping on toes.

That having been said, it might be a good idea to touch base w/ Kristi Kaiser to see if they have any idea where the MC bash will be. If what an earlier post said is true and the MC doesn't have anything scheduled after the game, perhaps we could use the same place.

Where does everyone plan to stay? Does anyone know if the MC will set up a trip that would include a hotel? I was wondering if there will be a home hotel for the Mustang Faithful.
