Wikipedia article on "the death penalty"

Postby AStudent » Fri Jul 07, 2006 2:24 pm

Hi all, first time (and probably last time) poster here. I began an article online recently about the NCAA's so called "death penalty" option. I realize this topic might be a big touchy for some of you but I wanted in all fairness to make the link available so that it meets the highest standards of accuracy. Please feel free to edit the page to correct mistakes.

Thank you,
Good luck to your school in 2006.

Your title should be changed, or at least the parenthetical, because the Death Penalty is not by rule limited to football programs. Also, your statement about the 1988 season, while accurate, is incomplete. You are correct that the schedule for 1988 was limited to road games, but you fail to mention that SMU voluntarily cancelled its 1988 season, thus affecting two full seasons without football as a result of the punishment.

I can't change the name of the thread (there MIGHT be another article "the death penalty  ) although I'd like to.

Also, your footnotes do not seem to be working.

With all due respect to our Michigan State friend who has decided to come on our site and discuss the Death Penalty in reference to SMU, where are all of the "recruits live and die with their decisions by reading this board" folks now. Is this the type of promotion of SMU you want to spread on this site.

This is a perfect example of what I was trying to say in a post on the other board when it abruptly ended. If you believe that reading the board actually makes a difference then just do what this guy has done. Go register on UT's sight and start bashing their recruits and bad mouthing their program and all of their recruits will leave and maybe come here.

I also said that the reason the Aggies did not use the internet is because they think the World Wide Web is a place that Spiderman hangs out, but that's another story.

See that's what kills me, somebody goes and gets a thread removed just when we were getting ready to assault the Aggies, an effort we can all get behind.

I'd be all for a stated policy, with zero tolerance, on what can be posted on this board, if it would halp the webmasters control things. I hate that entire threads are pulled because of the individual posts of some idiots. I'm sure I'd have to clean up a my act a little too, but I'm all for barring posters rather than threads.

As was stated the other day by another poster, the guys that run this site do it on their own time as a labor of love and don't have a lot of free time to baby sit all the different threads that are going on at any one time. It is a lot more effiecent to trash the whole thread than to go through each post to cull out the screwy ones. As far as banning posters...some of us are on good behavior most of the time, but occasionally get carried away...no need to get banned for an occasional out burst.

Right, but we are also learning what gets a thread pulled, so those who can't control themselves (or worse, those commie bastards who'd puposely post something to get a thread pulled when they don't agree with the points made by the good guys, especially me) should be outta here.

With ALL due respect to this website, 17-18 year old athletic studs have better things to do than to surf internet message boards looking to get "reads" on the school. Our message board lampoons everyone and it doesn't stop us from landing four and five star recuits. The most popular thread right now is "how many hands do you have."

I think you over estimate the importance of these websites when a recruit is choosing a school. They're more worried about playing time, academics, and fine trim then they are about discussing something that happened before some of them were potty trained.

Come over sometime and grab a cold one. Just stay out of Wells Hall for your own safety.

I am sorry you misinterpreted my sarcasm. I am an advocate of the fact that message boards do not make or break recruits decisions.
