Please, oh please...God, don't let Orsini turn into Copeland. Even if SMU, and Bennett go 6-6 or less next fall. ASSininey is the only name I can come up with. ![]() LONG LIVE TOM ROSSLEY ![]()
Get off the PB Hater train... I'm not a person who settles for anything less then the best, but ur endless rambling on PB has reached its limit! IF SMU goes 6-6, SMU fans should be happy (not satisfied) with how far SMU has come from: The Death Penalty, constant coaching turnovers, and the 0 win season. 6-6 isn't what PB wants and it's not what the admin, fans, etc. want. But it is a sign that we are heading in the right direction. Current players/ recruits hate to see a university who is constantly changing their commander and chief! The players buy into PB system (remember after the TT game when he was ready to get into a fight on the 50 yd. line), and firing him bc of a 6-6 season would be a huge mistake for the current team chemistry and recruiting! IF we ONLY go 6-6, then 2007 will be the deciding year for PB: Win or your gone!
For the record, that winless season was under PB's watch.
Great…a thread titled ‘Common Sense’ and some of you actually think a 6-6 record gets us bowling….get real.
6 wins with games against Ark St, NTSU and Sam Houston means 4-4 at best in conference play. Look at our home schedule…my bet is Las Vegas would place the over/under on home attendance at 10,000 and you guys think some bowl is going to invite us for the freaking story???????????????? Sorry, they are much more concerned about dollars and cents…i.e. attendance. A 6-6 SMU team would be lucky to get 6,000 fans to drive to Fort Worth. A 6-6 SMU team gets below 4,000 fans at any other venue. As for PB’s future, given this cupcake schedule, if he does indeed go 6-6 and if this years’ recruiting class is as disastrous as last years’ and if a big name falls from grace ala Mike Price or George O’Leary, then yes, I could easily see Orsini pulling the trigger.
For the record, 6-6 means 3-5 in Conference play, IMHO. We trade Baylor, TCU and aTm (1-2) for TECH, ArkSt, UNT, SHSU (3-1). Even 7-5 = 4-4 in Conf., - the likelihood of getting a bid at 4-4 is not high. I am not talking bowl unless we grab 8-4, which is not likely if we don't go 3-1 in OOC (Which might, just might, allow JW to develop).
I don't hate PB, just putting Wins and Losses to work for you. Since, IMO, 6-6 is a step back, PB gets fired (of course, save that we lose all 6 by 3 points, well ok, then no he doesn't get fired...but a few blowouts in there, then yes). For the record, I think we can win 7, and depending on JW and DM, 8. But I do not PREDICT that.
7-4 or elsePB has been weak in September, so we got a cupcake schedule to solve that problem. Twice he has had a good finish in November. Maybe that could happen again. So October is the critical period for SMU this year. The QB situation will be the deciding facto. 7-4 is a minimum with this year's schedule, or we really have backslid. The new AD will have to be like the AD who went to aTm and deposed Slocum for not meeting expectations. Given the handling of the BB program, I don't think PB should feel so secure any more. As for a bowl bid, only a CUSA tie-in with a mandatory placement will get us a post season game because of our poor attendance record. What you see is what you get, all over again.
Sam I Am
I would hope for 7-5, but I could see us stepping on you know what sometime during the season and putting up a few horrid games. A redshirt freshman QB of good talent will make some mistakes and some of those mistakes will cost us wins. That's pretty much a given. Add in a new linebacking corps and you have some possible adjustment problems. These things happen. UAB was supposed to be the class of CUSA east last year and look what happened to them. CUSA is improving its football brand and every win will be earned. ECU has Skip Holtz. Marshall is a decent program historically. Tulsa has proven they belong. UTEP has upgraded with Price. There will be no gimmes in conference play.
Re: Common Sense
So let's all follow the math here: 7-5 equals last year's 5-6. That means: 8-4 is one game better, or equal to 6-5 last year. 9-3 would be only two games better than 5-6. 10-2 would be only three games better than 5-6. Not sure you're gonna be able to sell the new GRGB math here. And I don't think the Athletic Department's going to use your new math either.
Shhhhh, you aren't supposed to reveal it until midnight! Sir, shooting-star, sir.

Re: Common Sense
So, each year, let's play easier and easier non-Conf. games, to increase the wins... That means we must be getting better...while staying the same in conference (4-4) with the same record.
