That comment about the girls is funny. My dughters got game jerseys for Christmas. Get a hold of Bob Sharp. Bobby came to the house selling for his summer job. Good stuff too. Cutco. My 13 year old was in a tee shirt and those sweat pant looking PJ bottoms. Honey come meet the sales guy. Gulp, stutter, aa aaa aa. and finally a HI. I hope he has a great year and that Willis stays solid. That is all we really need is a solid QB. The surrounding parts area all better than in years past. Like it or not, PB has BUILT a better team, from top to bottom. Go Mustangs Hand me one of those Sunshine Beers! Mustang Militia: Fight the good fight"
BUS- I will have an endless supply of Sunshine Beers at my tent on the Boulevard on September 16 (I will also have a supply Sept. 2 at Lubbock and Sept. 9 at Denton)! Everybody is welcome to stop by, and as Brother Bluto would say, "Grab a brew. It don't cost nothin'." I will also have strands of rope that can be used after the game if we lose to the Robert-kitties ((so that we can swing from the live oak trees - if you know what I mean)). ![]()
PonySoprano...FYI: Sam Houston State's mascot is the BEARKATS, not the Bobcats (Robert-kitties). The Bobcats are the mascot of Texas State University - San Marcos, formerly Southwest Texas State University.
Since I am grossly uneducated about Southland Conference mascots, could someone please explain the biological differences between a bobcat and a bearkat? Are bearkats indigenous to Southeast Texas? Is there a hunting season for them? Are they edible?
A bobcat is indigenous to the Texas Hill Country and other parts of the Lone Star State. You can kill one anytime you want. A bearkat is a kinkajou which is a mythical creature with the ability to overcome its opponent with superior intellect and power.
are the Sam Houston Bobkats sponsored by Dickies?
I had a girlfriend that thought she was a wampus cat........for some reason I always had bad luck.................
Everything you always wanted to know about a Bearkat...but were afraid to ask!
from http://www.shsu.edu/~stdjcw19/Bearkathistory.html “There is no real appropriate animal that's called a bearcat, but a couple of animals do have the colloquialism name for one,†Culp said. The first, a carnivorous mammal native to South America , is technically a “kinkajou.†It is usually about 10-12 inches long and has whiskers similar to that of a cat. Not known for its friendliness, the kinkajou is nocturnal and prone to be ferocious if provoked. The second type of bearcat comes from Asia and is called a “ binturong,†Culp said. However, according to Ty Cashion's report in “ Sam Houston State University : An Institutional Memory,†“The bearcat was a fierce, snarling critter of Deep East Texas mythology—half-panther, half-bear, and all-beast.†It was the former description on which the earliest mascot envisioning was based. Art teacher Ann Loring drew her idea of a Sam Houston Bearkat for a sticker in 1928. “It looked mean!†said University Archivist Barbara Kievit-Mason. A mascot that 'nips' out of fright In the 1950s, a real kinkajou was brought to the campus of SHSU and kept by some boys in a cage. They would let it out onto the turf during home football games. From that time on, other kinkajous were kept as SHSU mascots until the middle of the 1970s. However, the bearcats didn't adapt very well to captivity and the last kinkajou was sent to the San Antonio Zoo in 1976. According to an article in the Houstonian, Steve Richter, then a student active in the Student Government Association, said that the live kinkajou got excited and frightened at a crowded athletic event. He also said that “Sammy,†as the kinkajou was called, would occasionally nip people out of fright. “It was a really vicious little beast. They decided that was a bad idea,†Culp said. Additional note: the reason for the 'k' instead of the 'c' for Bearkat is a nod to the 'k' in kinkajou.
