I think it is very unlikely that the MWC will add 4 schools now. They will probably add one, and their best choice is probably BSU. They will do this just in case they lose Wyoming to the new attendance rule. Sure they want to be a BCS conference. But adding FSU, UH, BSU and Nevada will not make them a BCS conference. I can't see them doing that and watering down their already too small revenue stream.

HF, I agree. MWC is our best option, IF it really is an option. I think that teaming up with the Frogs and pitching us a pair may be our best shot. D/FW is our biggest selling point and will carry a lot of weight. TCU has proven its worth and the MWC knows that SMU is capable of the same kind of success. BYU, Utah, CSU, Air Force would love to play in Dallas or FW each year for recruiting purposes alone. For example, BYU landed it's biggest recruit in years with Euless OL Ofa Mohetau.

The MWC is already playing in two time zones and talking about adding UH. I don't think they are the least bit interested in anyone in another time zone, including TCU despite all of their success lately.

UH's prez is doing the talking about them joining the MWC, not the MWC. You might be right about the MWC wanting to stay West in expansion, but I sure hope our admin doesn't presume that or preclude discussions because of past history. Right now, TCU adds strength to any BCS wannabe league. Its a no brainer that the MWC will at least entertain the idea that a TCU will give them a much better chance at BCS and Espn contracts than a Nevada will. I stand by the notion that TCU is not and will not be settling for a regional league as their first choice.

It truly is beyond me why you guys want to make the MWC a BCS conference. True enough that TCU will chase any skirt that walks by but with TCU and Southern Miss in a regional conference we could equal or surpass the MWC and cut expenses. The MWC will be worse than the WAC. No one will be able to travel to any away games. May as well be playing teams on Mars. TCU is better than BYU. Southern Miss is better than Utah. AF and Rice could play all day and still be tied. This regional conference if allowed to happen is the place to be. In 2 years SMU is going to be as good as any of them.

Thats what I am saying, Tcu is gonna chase that skirt. I like the regional league better myself as long as it includes the Frogs. But the goal is not to be the best looking ugly girl at the dance. TCU is thinking BCS and we should be too with the things Bennett is doing. Yes, Southern Miss, TCU have recent skins equal to BYU and company. All I am saying is that if you put TCU in the MWC, all of a sudden the scales tilt, and if you include Fresno even moreso.

I still think the MWC will follow the lead of the Big East leftovers. If the eastern group tries to put together the strongest 12 they can find east of the Mississippi, I look for the MWC to expand to 12. The question is then whether they will forget all their principles and invite Fresno (despite academic issues) and Hawaii & TCU (despite location/travel issues).

I still think their is a chance we see the current 11 conferences become 9 and the BCS group come up with some new rules that dangle the carrot in front of what would be 4 wannabe conferences. I expect one rule to be that you have to be champion of a 12-14 school conference to get any consideration.

I think the altitude is a serious drawback to being in a conference with MWC schools. It's a hugh disadvantage.

The only way I see the MWC working for SMU is if Boise, TCU , Houston and SMU are added.

We're dreaming now, but how bout SMU, TCU, Houston and Utep? With New Mexico and UNLV, could make for a decent division opposite of the Mountain schools. I cant see them taking Houston over Fresno though. If you want academic cred, Coog High isnt gonna do anything for you. SMU's only chance is if they want a combination of academics and market size anyway, along with a travel partner for TCU.

Well, at least we can take some small solace in seeing it coming. The Frogs have one foot out the door boys and girls. Its not a slam dunk decision for them, but its probably gonna happen.

If they get an invite...they're outa here.
SMU's first president, Robert S. Hyer, selected Harvard Crimson and Yale Blue as SMU's colors to symbolize SMU's high academic standards. We are one of the few Universities to have school colors with real meaning...and we just blow them off.
