Arkansas State lineman Najm suspended three games

JONESBORO, Ark. -- Arkansas State defensive lineman Jonathan Najm has been suspended from the team for the first three games of the 2006 season, Indian coach Steve Roberts said Friday.

Roberts said Najm was suspended for conduct detrimental to the team, but the coach didn't specify the nature of the offensive conduct.

Najm, a 6-2, 246-pound senior from Fremont, Calif., will miss ASU's season opener with Army, a game with Oklahoma State in Little Rock, and the SMU game. He can return to play against Florida International Sept. 30 in Indian Stadium in the Sun Belt Conference opener.

Najm played in eight games in 2005, with five starts at defensive end, before sustaining a knee injury at Middle Tennessee.

He recorded 30 tackles -- five tackles for a total of 16 lost yards -- and 3 1/2 sacks. He also forced two fumbles and recovered a fumble. His best individual performance was against Oklahoma State, with five solo tackles, a forced fumble and two sacks.

dont we have a new qb too? By the way, Ark State has a better NC schedule than we do. I'd rather play Army than Sam Houston.

Arkansas State hung with Southern Miss in their bowl game. This will not be a lay-up at all. They're not the most talented team on our schedule, but they're extremely fast all over the field, and a mistake on our part could end up in the end zone.

The reason why they hung with USM is because of QB Nick Noce who graduated last year.
