My dad's family was from West and some relatives owned the local meat market and bakery. We would go visit my grandmother and eat kolaches and "West Special" sausages all day. Do not know if the family still has any ownership but if the W Library goes to Waco, I might have to make a visit and stop in West on the way.

Personally I kind of like Waco. It always meant I was about half way to Austin or Dallas, depending on which way was going.

Arguing about whether Lubuttock or Waco is worse it like discussing what composition of sewage smells the best.

Surely we are above this.....

The wife and I go to the hill country on a winery run several times a year and West is always the first stop we make. The Czech Stop kolaches are awesome.

Stop in the Nemechek(sp?) Meat Store and get a package of West Specials. Great sausage. Then get 1 and only 1 extra hot West Special. I fed 35 people with one because you can not take a small enough bite to keep it from burning too much to eat anymore.

We always play West in football, so that gives us extra time for Czech Shop. Also, West has a very good pizza place. It's the best in the county, IMO.

Best in the county? That's damning with faint praise, isn't it?
That's like saying the best seafood in Nebraska.
