They don't offer merit scholarships, either. That's the main reason why I am not considering them.

However, they do offer "financial aid" and they will "preferentially package" this aid to get the athletes they want.

They have "financial aid" for regular students as well, but let's just say I don't expect any from those schools. I'm hoping for merit money from SMU.

Ask them if they have a closet in the basketball arena that needs sweeping.

If your parents have an income under 50k, you go to Yale/Harvard for nothing with the "financial aid" package.

Are you sure they don't offer merit based scholarships at Yale? The salutatorian from my high school went to Yale on scholarship.

Unfortunately, I do not qualify for that. However, a friend of mine does and I have encouraged her to apply.

I actually went to a Yale admissions presentation and they hashed out their policy. No aid based on merit; aid is solely given out based on your family income as shown on the FAFSA and CSS/PROFILE. Note that that is on a university-wide basis, obviously all departments have money to give out; however, don't expect a full-tuition scholarship from a department (expect $500-$1000 from what I was told).

You sure seem to have researched your college decision.

Are you coming to the Hilltop this year?

It's my first choice! Of course, that could change because I want to go visit USC, Boston U, Miami of Ohio, and American U, but I don't see SMU dropping far (or at all).

Miami (OH) is probably the second prettiest campus I have ever seen. Great school also!

Miami really is nice, and you're right -- a good school.
But walk around each campus and .... shall we say "observe" -- there's no contest!

Of course, the prettiest being SMU...

Virginia also has a very beautiful campus, but their student body isn't as beautiful as SMU's, as Higher Authority alluded to.
