The TCU Board is pretty funny reading. Some fans saying don't take him, others saying, he made a mistake, he learned his lesson, he has to pay the money back and lose a year of elibility, etc. Bomar would not be welcomed at SMU by our administration, but I suspect our fans would find forgiveness in their hearts if he wanted to come to SMU.

Don't take this too lightly. TCU may be opting for the NAIA. They may figure that is their way to the BCS.

Uh... yes they would accept Bomar. If your administration told the NCAA "go to hell" when you cheated, I think they would accept someone who made a few bucks here and there. Regardless, Bomar and his pops are scheduled to visit TCU in the next few days--we'll see how it turns out.

That was the 20 years ago administration that told the NCAA to pound sand and we got whacked. Now we can't even admit a kid from Northwestern without reducing his transferable credits by 50%. My guess, no way would he get admitted.

"Who in the United States wouldn't be interested in Rhett Bomar as a player?" Head Coach Gary Patterson said. "We have question marks. Everyone has question marks. You need to have patience in these situations."
And then repeated SMU got the death penalty several times after that. The DP was 20 years ago, but we still get slapped about it.
That's my point - the fact that the NCAA will not give it to anyone else (at least 15 schools have since qualified) magnifies the stigma on SMU. It's DP II - and it's not right.

SMU denied the evidence of their wrong-doing... furthermore, they told the NCAA "go to hell." No other institution would dare do such a thing; thus, their escaping the penalty.

Any school that meets the requirements for the death penalty is telling the NCAA to 'go to hell'.
It should have been and should continue to be handed down when deserved.

True. Very true. But it never will be handed out again. mr. pony wrote:It should have been and should continue to be handed down when deserved.
Not so sure it should. The aftershocks far exceeded anyone's predictions.
