Accordng to the NY times, Auburn is investigating 18 players from their 2004 football team (including Cadillac Williams). Combined the 18 players supposely took 97 hours during their tenure at Auburn. That is 5.4 hours per player or less than two classes during their entire college career.

Wow, but what can Auburn do to rectify the situation? The only thing I can think of is forfeit games and maybe give back their BCS money for the years those players participated.

Nothing will happen.

Think about how much $$$$$ they bring in to the NCAA.

It's ALL about money

The smart thing would be a self-imposed cancellation of the upcoming season.

This is old news. Auburn did nothing wrong. Similar classes are taught at schools all over the nation.

The NYT swung and missed badly on this one.

UNLIKE Smew, Jim dismissed the players and voluntarily reported the infractions to the NCAA. Most of you know what Smew did and said: I feel no need to repeat their words and actions.

And yet Auburn has just fired two department heads in connection with this fiasco. Directed-reading courses are indeed taught at almost every school in the US...however, usually you still have to pass a couple of core courses before you can even try to get into direct-reading.

All this said...agree with BUS...nothing will happen to Auburn above a slap on the wrists

That's right, Froggie, Jim Wacker was forced to turn the program in after Kenneth Davis nearly crushed the program all by himself. Wacker had no control of his program. Don't come off and play the "we policed ourselves and did the right thing'' card. Your deeds were pretty devious, and you know it.

By the way, how did last year's game between you and us work out? Your team will never get over that game. They're still talking about it.

The real truth on TCU is that Wacker had his "team meeting" the morning after the DMN Morning News reported that the NCAA was in Dallas interviewing SMU players about violations at TCU. It was in the paper in almost those exact words. At least Wacker came clean-SMU didn't for about 6 years. I've never been able to come to a conclusion on whether Wacker had actual knowledge or was simply blissfully ignorant but I am sure that he heard the train coming down the track-which caused him take a closer look at possible violations. It wasn't just TCU turning themselves in- the NCAA was hot on their trail.

As a University of Minnesota fan, please do not talk about any "merits" of Wacker around me. He is a really nice man though.
