Dontae Newton Profile

In case you haven't noticed Oklahoma City Millwood is absolutely loaded. One prospect you may not have heard as much about is tight end Dontae Newton, who has a solid list of offers.
"I have written offers from Baylor, Nebraska, Tulsa and SMU," Newton said. "I have talked to Oklahoma and Michigan State a good bit though. I also camped at Texas A&M this summer."

The 6-foot-2, 210-pound Newton is a versatile athlete who could play a couple of different positions.

"Some schools like me as a wide receiver, Oklahoma actually likes me as a defensive end," Newton said. "Most schools are looking at me as a tight end though. I would rather play wide receiver because I like to have the ball in my hands, but I would play wherever."

Newton has a top five, but one school is above the others at this point.

"Oklahoma is my top school, thats where I'd really like to go," Newton said. "I also like Nebraska, SMU, Michigan State and Texas A&M. Right now I am just sitting back and weighing my options to see what is best for me."

I know nothing about this kid but I do see a positive to take away from his comments. Of all the schools that have shown any interest in him there are three that would be considerd a lower tier program than the rest- Baylor, Tulsa, SMU. Yet when he states what schools he is most interested in, SMU is the only one of the three that make the cut.

Nebraska asks its tight ends to do a lot of the same things we do with ours, and still carries some real weight in recruiting. This sounds like he might be a better player than his height and weight indicate. Go get 'em, coaches!
