do you mean forgotten about by the ticket save for the three hours every week we are actually on the air? Oh and the homer call of the week, we're always on that too.
I mean c'mon.... listening to espn radio in Dallas you would think TCU is the greatest thing since the Wendy's Frosty. A little love Ticket, please. I mean you are a 24 hour local sports station - there's got to be some time to devote. The DMN I can forgive, so many pages and so mcuh more interesting stuff to cover... but Ticket, you are one of three local 24 hour sports stations*... maybe a one hour a week caoches show, and an occasional ad, please? Then again, I'm not in Dallas any more, so I don't know if the Ticket has changed it up a bit. But as I recall - they had a fifteen minute interview with Bennett most weeks, and never played an ad. * - does Fox Sports Radio still have a DFW affiliate? I listened to it once and then I heard a joke that they were gone.... not sure if it was a joke. But the station sure was. EDIT - by "more interesting" stuff, as per the DMN, I mean from a citywide perspective. But at least they cover our games, I don't think the Ticket even talked about our games. Then again they didn't talk much sports period. Hence the reason I listened to espn radio.... and I guess that means, the ticket could have played ads and I never would have known. ![]() ![]() Eric Dickerson in Pony Excess "I've love winning man, it's like better than losing." - Ebby Calvin "Nuke" LaLoosh

I have interneded and worked at the ticket for 5 years now.. i am not making an excuse, b/c I wish they covered us more.. but lets be realistic... your first point: listening to espn radio in Dallas you would think TCU is the greatest thing since the Wendy's Frosty rebuttle: espn knows they can't compete in dallas w/ the ticket and so they go for the ft worth market, TCU is ft. worths college team and most of the espn host write for the star telegram.. and tcu went 11-1 last year... your 2nd point: maybe a one hour a week caoches show, and an occasional ad, please? rebuttle: the ticket does cover the smu sports luncheon.. norm had a weekly show w/ phil bennett..rich does his best to talk about us, but he is not a host and he knows its a losing battle until our fans actually show up and the team starts winning.. as far as advertising.. they have mutliple promos during the week especially on all day friday... now lets think about ratings which drives them... they actually don't talk alot of college football and now that they are the flagship station of the cowboys i bet there will be less college football talk... there are 4 professional teams in dallas to talk about... then there is their fratenity like banterings and their sthick... when they actually do talk college sports.. again look at the #'s.. Texas is better and has more alumni in the dfw metroplex.. one Final and huge reason.. Corby and Greggo are TCU grads..Dunham and miller are unt grads...mike ryhner is a big aggie fan but lifelong cowboys fan...bob is from wisconsin and dan is from cleveland... When we start winning and selling out and orsini makes SMU dallas' team and Dnews columnists write about us then the ticket will talk about us.. after they talk about the 4 pro teams
Yup. And Rich is also a UNT grad... which is weird. I mean only from the standpoint that it's amazing that he is such a huge SMU fan. And you cannot say that that is an act, because - as much as I normally hate homers - his blatant over the top homerism comes so naturally, that he MUST be a fan. And it is glorious.
I will say that I went to TicketStock with a buddy and had a great time. Corby has said some of the funniest things I have ever heard... in fact I quote one of his lines perhaps three times a week (at least I think it was him), they were talking about Hollywood stars and older men with young young women: "I gotta' tell you this Hollywood thing - ... it... is... [extremely pregnant pause] MAGICAL." Me and my buddies were driving to Austin for SXSW (actually just me for SXSW, my buddies were coming down for a weekend of bar hopping, and general decadence). We were listening to the Ticket on the way out of town. I do not know we didn't get in accident, as we litterally drove off the road. There is no way to do that quote justice via the written word, it was all in the delivery. There was so much of a pause that you put all these different words to follow it, and none of them were "magical" - in context we were thinking - "wrong", "dispicable", "awful", etc. - and none of them, mentally, were delivered with such panache. Just beautiful. And yes, everytime I listen to ESPN radio and Estridge woul have an ad for TCU or start talking about the Frogs... always changed over to the Ticket and stayed there. Including for one hysterical afternoon of a bottle water taste testing. The only time (other than SMU games/post games) that I turned to the Ticket for real sports news, is/was their fantastic Stars post game show. And yes I was refering to Norm's interview with Coach B, as the 15 minute segment (is/was it longer?). And I was using hyperbole on the ads, because I did remember hearing an ad for an SMU game last season (I moved to Austin last year the Monday after the Baylor game) - but I don't remember many others than that. I actually called a buddy to say that I heard an ad for the SMU Baylor game... which was refreshing after a summer of Estridge pimping for season tix to TCU on espn radio. All that being said... I just want an hour in the evening for Phil. Can we get that? Please? And yes I listened to espn for the Dan Patrick show, and Chuck Cooperstein. Once the Coop was no longer during drive time, I went back to my old staple - NPR. (On a side note, how does Austin of all places - AUSTIN!!?!?? - have such a crappy NPR station? I mean the music is great, but c'mon, does there have to be so much of it? If I wanted music I could listen to a thousand other stations. Can I get my Morning Edition, All Things Considered, Fresh Air, heck dig up ol' gravelly throat Diane Rehm - wait she's still alive? And yes KUT has all of those - maybe not Rehm - but my drive time is different from the average man - lucky enough to work my own schedule which I have decided is 10-7 - and there is always music!!! [sigh]) Go Mustangs, Thaddeus ![]() Eric Dickerson in Pony Excess "I've love winning man, it's like better than losing." - Ebby Calvin "Nuke" LaLoosh
How is the Ticket Stars Post Game Show compared to the WBAP Stars Post Game Show? I usually listen to WBAP, because of Ralph being on there but I've heard very good things about the Ticket's Stars post game show. Never have listened to it though. Totally off topic I know but o well thought I would ask it anyways LOL. ![]()
A. I complete agree with you, I wish the ticket would talk about smu more often..
But again the ticket wants to make money just like any other business, and the bottom line is that talking about smu football at any time of the day will not make money.. That is why john hampton and I have will be doing our own smu football and basketball talk show that will be podcasted...
That's all you had to say.
I believe that it is no longer operating. Not that you could get a signal anywhere in town regardless...
Does Jim Rome have a DFW affiliate? He used to be on 1190, but I couldn't find him last time I was in town.
Just my two cents.
