Frogs miss out on a transfer!

Per ESPN.com:

QB Evridge says he's going to WisconsinESPN.com news services

Allan Evridge, the former Kansas State starter who decided to leave less than a week into fall practice, is transferring to Wisconsin.

Evridge and his mother told the Omaha World-Herald and the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel that he'll be a Badger.

"Right when I stepped on campus it was just a great feeling," Evridge told the Journal Sentinel, confirming that he had selected Wisconsin over Texas Christian University and Oregon State. "Meeting with Coach [Bret] Bielema in the morning ... he's just a man I've greatly respected."

Bielema was the co-defensive coordinator and recruiting coordinator at K-State when Evridge signed in February 2004 but left soon after to coach at Wisconsin.

Because Wisconsin doesn't have a scholarship available, Evridge will be a walk-on this fall, the Journal Sentinel reported. The quarterback will have to sit out the 2006 season and have two seasons of eligibility remaining after that.

Evridge was the third Wildcats quarterback to depart Manhattan since the spring game in April. He played in nine games as a redshirt freshman last season -- starting six -- and threw for a Kansas State freshman record 1,365 yards and six touchdowns.

Against Texas A&M, he completed 23 of 44 passes for 357 yards and three touchdowns. He also rushed for 203 yards, including 138 yards in a 27-25 loss to Nebraska.

The 6-foot-1, 214-pound lefty was part of a five-way competition for the starting quarterback job in the spring. Only senior Dylan Meier and heralded freshman Josh Freeman are left on the roster.

In April, redshirt freshman Kevin Lopina announced he was transferring, eventually settling on Washington State. Then last month, senior Allen Webb -- who split time as the starter with Evridge last season -- announced he was transferring to Texas College, an NAIA school in Tyler, Texas.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.

well at least they are trying. Of course, we know that NCAA Rules forbid recruitment of Division 1A transfers so keep your skirts on Polyannas. Its amazing that you guys actually think that's why SMU doesn't get tansfers while TCU, UH and UTEP are bringing in bushels full this year as they do just about every year.

SMU went after him.. but after reading Stallion's posts about our short QB's.. they decided he's too tall (6ft 1).

Ah well.. at least we tried.. (wink)
What we obtain too cheap.. we esteem too lightly. It is persistence alone that gives everything its value.
