Tailgating Question

Postby tmustangp » Wed Aug 23, 2006 2:26 pm

Last year I noticed a few tailgaters who used 12V car batteries instead of the roaring generators that are ever so popular to power up tv's, stereos and satellite receivers.. here are my questions?

with a 350 watt inverter from radio shack (or any watt inverter)
-can you plug a tv, satellite and ipod stereo into it?
-just a tv and iPod stereo into it?
-how long does the battery last (hours)?
-how do you recharge the battery so that you don't buy a new battery every home game which would by the end of the season cost you as much as a small generator?
-if there is anything else i should know about this cheaper and less noise pollution idea, please let me know?

To determine how many watts of power you need from your source, look on the back of each appliance that you want to run. The amount of watts that it uses will be listed. Add all that up and that will tell you the size of inverter you need. Factor in a little extra because some appliances use additional power to start up.

I have never tried the car/marine battery thing - we use one of those Honda Super Quiet generators.

btw - the Honda Generators website has a table that shows the average usage of appliances: http://www.hondapowerequipment.com/genwat.asp
