JOhn RobersonJohn goes to TT this weekend for an official. Lets hope that Knight falls on his face. Wouldn't hurt to have our ponies beat Tech this weekend either, talk about putting a damper on the campus.
actually he visited Tech last weekend. No commitment but in comparing his leaders he did say (to the Tech Rivals reporter) that Tech's facilities were better, he wants to play at the highest level and he wants national visibility-impressed with their 14 TV appearances. BTW he hasn't taken the SAT yet so can't take official visit yet.
Since this question seems to come up every eyar, I'm just going to mention that the difference between an "Official" and "Unofficial" visit is primarily the amount of money that a school can spend on a recruit during a visit (none, on an unofficial visit) and the amount of time a recruit is allowed to stay on campus.
During an Official visit, the school can pay for a recruits travel expenses, food, hotel, and "entertainment", expenses. Recently the NCAA has tried to limit the amount spent on "entertainment" and the distance from campus a recruit is allowed to travel during his visit. For an "Unofficial" visit, the recruit has to pay for all of that himself. The recruit can visit the schools campus anytime he wants, as often as he wants, but he has to pay all his own expenses, and cant stay on-campus overnight. Athletes are limited to 5 Official visits (correct me on that if I'm wrong, but 5 is the number I recall). Stallion is correct that an athlete in any sport cannot take an Official visit until after he has a posted SAT score. It doesnt have to be a qualifying score, but he he has to have at least taken the test and gotten his score back. Football players in Texas cannot take official visits until after their senior year of competition is complete, so none of the players that have committed to us already have taken Official visits yet, and the recruits you see on the sidelines during games will all be hear on Unofficial visits. Roberson and other basketball players are allowed to take Official visits earlier, because they sign Letters Of Intent in November. Try not to choke on the Kool-Aid.
Bobby Knight has a September 9th in-home visit to Roberson planned. Still listing Tech and SMU but OU who earlier was thought to be his favorite is still involved. Roberson has indicated a desire to remain close to home.
The DMN's Todd Wills had lunch with Roberson about 10 days ago and said John really likes Doherty and the direction the program is headed. It's Todd's opinion that Roberson may lean toward SMU because of being close to home and rebuilding the program. Tech is definitely in it -- a leader, who knows? -- but if you're running neck and neck with Knight and you are close to home, you have a very good chance. Knight better bring it on the 9th.
No, Knight had better not bring it. I'm hoping he throws a chair across Roberson's living room, breaks a telephone with his fist and makes fun of the food he's served. I hope he's also sitting in the room when Roberson picks up the phone and calls Coach Doherty to give his commitment to SMU.
Sept. 8th Rivals update indicates that he will be visiting with Knight on the 10th, Doherty, and finally Huggins on the 12th. He wants to make a decision soon and may not make a visit to Kansas State because he wants to get his decision over with. Keep your fingers crossed
