Actually the real translation is "Tech beats us every year".

Disrespect from other teams comes when you beat them constantly. So I like reading how rude we are and how classless Leach is. Ironically, I would think this would be the one place in Texas where this would be understood. This same stuff happened to SMU in the late 70s and early 80s when the Pony Express started to roll. People have a negative conotation about those days of SMU football when the Ponies didn't do anything Houston, Texas, Sooners, Huskers, and Texas A&M weren't doing.

And by the way, he is very well liked in Lubbock and not just because he has us winning more.

Here is to hoping SMU is calling Tech classless, jerks, and whatever Sunday morning. :D

I can't speak for World Stang, but I went to that game also. I was in the section behind the SMU band. We were pelted with quarters, batteries, etc. for much of the game. Also 2 guys came and sat in the middle of our section acting like hooligans. They ended up getting into a fist fight with one of our students. Neither party was guiltless, but there was no problem until the guys came into our section looking to cause trouble.

OK.. happy to tell you.

First.. one of the guys sitting in front of our season ticket section was a complete [deleted] to my wife. Asking her why she would cheer for a "team that lost every game." I knew he'd been drinking.. as many of us have.. but this was 1 of 3 completely different incidents that happened just in our section with 3 different sets of Tech fans. They were all around 25-30 years old.. and just punks.. even their girlfriends/wives. Finally.. 2 of the groups were escorted out because a ton of people had kids around.. and they just wouldn't stop. Keep in mind.. none of these 3 groups of Tech fans even sat next to each other.

So anyway.. long and short of it is.. I was actually somewhat of a fan of Tech before that game.. but never again. I lost alot of respect for them.. and heard it was going on all over the stadium because I talked to several of the people we had invited for a tailgate.. most of whom had no association with either school.

Sure we know they came into our place and made it theirs.. but it's no reason to be aholes.

.. And to the post a couple above me.. Tech fans are right up there with Ohio State fans as far as classless. Can't tell you the number of Cal, Colorado, OU, Texas and UTEP friends that all think Tech fans have no tact or class. So.. understand.. this doesn't just come from the teams you beat. And my wife is from Lubbock and her mom works at Tech.. Most of the faculty are not fans of Leach or Knight for that matter.

I know people who work at Tech and love Leach. The people who work at the library loves Knight.

Ohio State fans love Tech and had a great time with the Tech fans who made the trip to Columbus.

Colorado has never won in Lubbock, so no wonder they hate Lubbock. Colorado fans also have the worst reputation of the Big 8 schools. Even worse than you are making us out to be.

OU fans were very friendly with us after we hired Leach, that is until they lost last season. Leach is still very well liked in Norman.

Cal is just mad because we exposed them. They come out talking about needing to beat us by 31, get an early 14-10 point lead and then get spanked trying to keep up with our O. They couldn't even use the excuse they took us lightly. We were just better and everyone saw it. Oh, we picked up a pretty good recruit from that area from watching that game, so not everyone from the area has a problem with us. And the bowl committee said we were great and a team to have back.

I'll remind you of the Boulder sports writer who wanted to see who had the worst fans so he made a game in every Big 12 stadium in the opposing team T shirt. He wore an Aggie shirt to the Tech game because he heard all the Aggies complaining. He wrote about the fun he had tailgaiting with Red Raiders who thought he was an Aggie and he had no problems at the game. He said Tech fans were great.

We didn't have this reputation in the early 80s or even when Spike was out there. So yeah, it is because we win.

In every group of fans, there are going to be those who are a-holes to the opposing fans and will even try to provoke them. Back in the SWC days, I ran into people like that Tech games, UT games, and even A&M games (I know they like to claim they are gracious fans, but there are plenty of a-holes there, too).

I have also made friends from the opposing team's fans, too.

Fans who want to stir up trouble will do it. They are at every school. Now that doesn't excuse the behavior, but it happens.

The Tech fans that were at Ford were very cool. Most of them said we outplayed Tech. Tech is a good place but Leach needs to learn some manners.

Tech fans aren't any worse than UT or especially A&M fans. A bad experience with a couple shouldn't mean lumping the other thousands of fans there with them. It happens, its college football.

I don't know how UT is, but I know when I went to the A&M game last year, I never got hit with anything.

Hey I've been to some nasty places and some nice places:
Nasty: Arkansas (inbred drunks), A&M (armed guards), UH (no class), VMI (Aggies without the charm), Maryland (in a class all its own, rude and abusive), NC State (rude attitudes).
Nice: Rice (great laid back attitude), UT (always treated well in Austin), Penn State (huge tailgating, very generous with beer, sausage, etc.), Marshall (seemed happy to see visiting fans), Navy (class act all the way).

Of course not, but I have been to many NCAA football games (both SMU and USC) and MY worst experiences (in terms of visiting fans to our home games) have been Texas Tech at SMU and Cal-Berkeley at SC. Obviously, there are some very nice TT fans, and there are jerks everywhere (even SMU!), but I believe there is some truth to stereotypes, or else they wouldn't have become stereotypes in the first place.
GO MUSTANGS!

Of course we're going to yell for SMU genius.. but people are talking about gameday experience. Like it or not, our Sand Aggy friends don't typically contribute in the most positive of ways. NOW.. we have the great opportunity of soaking-in all that the great city of Lubbock has to offer. Why not talk about it? It's where we're going.. and for those who haven't been there.. they'll know what to expect.

I would love to eat my words.. come back glowing of the hospitality and incredible experience of hangin with Tech fans. But.. to put it in Sand Aggy terms.. that dog don't hunt.
