Can't wait for Saturday

Postby Techsan-81 » Fri Sep 01, 2006 11:20 am

Greetings, Mustang fandom.

College football season is finally upon us and once again Tech plays SMU in the opener. I expect the Raiders will win but probably not by the landslide score that most Tech fans seem to expect. That seems to be the pattern when these teams meet.

Not sure what to expect from Tech this weekend. I think this may be the most talented group Leach has fielded. There's no question that our QB talent has been upgraded with Graham Harrell.

The defense has some inexperience in the secondary, but the front 7 have me very optimistic that our defense will be considerably better than last year's edition.

Hicks and Crabtree are out, but if there's a position where we could afford to lose somebody, it would be WR. Todd Walker, L.A. Reed and Grant Walker are all pretty good receivers.

Taurean Henderson is gone. He will be missed, as he was a tremendous contributor for four years. But here's a name to remember: Baron Batch. He's a true freshman out of Midland and I think he's going to be spectacular.

Having said all that, I just have this nagging feeling that the team chemistry is a little shaky. Seems all summer there's been a sort of general unrest amongst the team. The Hicks episode is just the most recent in a string of things that look like distractions to me, but I'm not exactly an insider. Some teams are drawn together by things like this, and others suffer--time will tell.

In any event, we're finally playing college football again and I can't wait. Here's hoping both teams play well and don't have any injuries.

Nice to know you finally have some talent at QB.

I think T-81 is right on. Everything I've heard and read about Baron Batch suggests that he will, in fact, be a very good player. Thankfully, we get him in his first game, so hopefully he's not quite ready.
