Good game, Mustangs! After taking the lead early you guys had me worried...but we are just too athletic.
I tell you what, that Willis kid is a PLAYER. What an athlete! He's going to be a huge asset to your program for years to come.
Let me second what TTU said, I think you guys have a great future QB in JW. I was at the game and although his stats were not great he made a few plays that only special players make. I thought the Mustang D was pretty decent also, you guys are getting better athletes and its showing. Good luck the rest of the way.
Martin played a fair game, though he could've been a lot better. The SMU fan I was sitting next to nailed it: "He dances behind the LOS far too much." If he would just hit the hole hard and churn those legs instead of dancing around trying to find a gap he'd gain a lot more yards.
And yes, you should be optimistic about Willis. If you didn't see the game close up, it's easy to be a downer, but he made some special plays during the game.
SMU really played a lot better than I expected last night. SMU kept Tech from getting on a roll. A lot of times when Tech starts rolling, everything cascades and the score gets out of hand. SMU did a good job of not allowing that to happen.
Tech is better than most in Texas think, and SMU did OK. SMU played a lot better than UNT or LA Tech did yesterday. There were a few plays that showed the talent difference, but SMU played hard and tackled well for the most part. Your QB is pretty good. He has a tendency to run too quickly but I think that will decrease as he gets more comfortable with the game. He has the confidence and looks like the players trust him. Just beat UNT next week and roll SHSU. If the team plays all season the way they played last night, SMU will be competing for a conference title.
I have seen lots of SMU football in the last few years.....so for the diehard fans out there, don't worry. The team looked far better than the score reflected, its gonna be a fun season on the hilltop...
I was impressed with Harrell, very good poise. That o-line is massive, and they have that thing called pass protection down.
Although I still don't like Leach, I'll give him credit for last night's 4th quarter. He didn't call any pass plays and kept the ball on the ground. That may have kept the score lower than it could have been.
But enough talk about TT. Let's get ready for North Texas State now. They'll be out for blood after yesterday's shelacking from the 'Horns.
It is hard to run against a D line that can dominate your O line. Our future games should have more parity, and thus more of the demyron we are used to.
