Brandon Bonds

Postby Stallion » Mon Sep 04, 2006 4:41 pm

Ok this is the year we are supposed to see Bonds devekop into an average or better player. Still trying to keep positive based on his hard work during the offseason but I don't think I heard his name called in the entire game. He didn't even make the statistical chart with any defensive statistics. Did he play? Was he mobile? Was he dominated? Maybe he was hurt? Any impressions? I'll admit that Tech's offensive philosophy might make it more difficult on a defensive lineman to make plays but I hear Haywood's name called all night so tell me what's the impression from those that were there.

He played. So did Rogers.

Tech's line, O and D, looked like human earth movers.

Based upon PonyPride's pregame post..."There will be many occasions Saturday when he (Brandon Bonds) lines up across from Tech RG Manny Ramirez, who is enormous (330-ish) and absurdly strong"...Bonds may have had his hands full.

from my vantage point in the end zone, it appeared to me that BBwas double teamed most of the game - that is probably why Muse and Hayward were more apparent - Justin did not have his best game -

Okay if Texas Tech double-teamed Bonds instead of Haywood then someone on their staff should be fired.

Not necessarily. If they saw Bonds as the guy who potentially could collapse the pocket, and Haywood as a speed guy they felt they could outrun, then they absolutely were right to double-team Bonds.

Jason January had his way with Justin Rogers, but Haywood and Muse got in the backfield a number of times.

unfortunately DT's have to share the spotlight... there are 5 lineman and 4 DL, so one DT will get Doubleteamed and the other won't...

considering that BB was double teamed throughout the game it shows that the D1 coaches believe that he was a certain threat...

or you can look at it this way.. they were very confident in Ramirez against Haywood and Haywood was in the backfield all day...

if BB dominates and Haywood is double teamed then haywood is doing his job, and vice versa...

you have to understand that in a 4-3 def the DT are supposed to hold up the lineman so that the LB's can make the play.. if a DT beats the OL, that is just bonus points for our D and loss yds for the O...
