Not even UTEP, which has history with the goats...would be interested in joining a Western based conference again (unless it's the Pac-10 and we all know it'll never happen).
UTEP, SMU, Rice and Tulsa are at home in Conference USA.

Why in the world would SMU leave C-USA for a Western based conference?

The MWC state school attendanceHow did attendance at TCU games in the MWC compare with their games while in the CUSA? If the MWC lets the home team keep the receipts, then all that may matter is how loyal is the fan base in Ft. Worth with the new opponents. Winning helps the gate, that is for sure. But again, the MWC would not help SMU because we didn't particularly prosper when we had the MWC on our schedule in the 16 team WAC. By the way, that experiment failed for many reasons and that conference breakup should not have surprised anyone. I'm glad we are out of it. No more games in Hawaii ever.

I know the cheerleaders are disappointed, although now when they go to Hawaii they don't have to worry about that pesky game getting in the way of their beach time.

On a side note, anybody need a patent attorney? Good, Bad...I'm the one with the gun.
If anyone in CUSA should entertain thoughts of joining the MWC, it would be UTEP. Geographically, they are a good fit and they have a history with most of those schools from the old WAC days. It's ridiculous to thing SMU could improve it's position by joining the MWC. SMU is fortunate to be in CUSA west and we just need to work on becoming a PRODUCTIVE member of CUSA in something besides soccer
. The only conference change that would please me would be to bring back the SWC, although at this point it would have to be a watered down version. Put Arkansas back in the Big XII with UT, A$M & TTech - take Baylor and TCU along with SMU, Houston & Rice and then pick how many more schools you want. Candidates would probably be UNT, Tulane, La Tech, La-Lafayette, Ark St, Tulsa, UTEP and maybe NMSU? As long as we were playing with Baylor, TCU, Houston and Rice, I'd be pleased and I think it would be time to play UNT as a conference mate. Being realistic, though...there's no way any reformed SWC is going to have a better bowl lineup than CUSA offers. Arkansas would benefit, IMO , from being in the Big XII (recruit Texas better?) and the SEC could backfill with Fla St or Louisville while the ACC could backfill with either Louisville or West Virginia
