were any of you surprised by anything on the field ? From all the comments pre/post-game on this board, I was actually heartened that SMU did not fold in the first quarter as has been the case in past years. Mental toughness continuing to develop, or Tech's ineptness for a few minutes ?
Giving the BCS/non-BCS talent gap argument a breather, do you see the offense opening up a bit more against a more evenly matched opponent this week, or is this going to be the norm for 2006 ? Say it isn't so...

Actually, SMU didn't fold in the first quarter at Dallas two years ago. I think it was 6-3 Tech in the third. But that WAS a home game/
Compared to '03 at Lubbock, this game definitely was an improvement.
You're right they didn't fold. The defense seemed to get better as the game progressed.

I only listened to the game, so I didn't get the nuances of actually being there. But I like the fact that we led the game and only held them to 35.. There are not going to be many teams who can say the same.

I was thinking about that 35 points. I am not sure that is going to turn out to be that great. I think you are going to see Tech's scoring average drop significantly this year, possibly by as much as a touchdown per game. I think the rule changes cost Tech around offensive fifteen plays a game, which is a possible TD drive. We will find out as the season goes on, but I am not convinced that giving up 35 points to Tech is going to be something to crow about.

Pretty bad when a rooster call is deemed profane.
Let me try this:
"Don't [deleted] that gun, mister."

I saw a preliminary report that said offensive plays per game dropped 14.5 per game.

But we are talking about Tech, so it is probably closer to 20 per game for them.

Let's see how Tech does in a few more games.
They might be the 2nd best team in the Big12...
