ROBERSON (F/C) CELEBRATES WITH TEAMMATES
03/12/06 THIRD TIME'S THE CHARM FOR EX-LAKE HOWELL STAR For ex-Lake Howell star guard John Roberson, it was a dream come true. After two unsuccessful Final Four attempts with the Silver Hawks in 2004 and 2005, Roberson finally got the ring. It just took a change of scenery to get it done! Playing before a packed house on the University of Texas campus in Austin, Roberson scored 21 second half points to lead his Plano Senior Wildcats past Houston Kingwood to a 60-58 overtime win to claim the UIL 5A title (the largest in Texas). On Saturday evening, Plano pulled off the unbelievable erasing a 10-point deficit in the fourth quarter to win. After Arizona recruit Nic Wise hit a 3-pointer, one of seven he made, on the first possession of the fourth quarter to stretch Kingwood's lead to 10, Plano made the run that will be remembered for years in Dallas. Plano outscored Kingwood (36-6) 14-4 over the remainder of the fourth quarter to force overtime. Roberson scored Plano's final five points of regulation, making two free throws to tie the score with 27 seconds remaining. "John Roberson is just really big time," Plano coach Tom Inman said. "If there's a better point guard around, I want to meet him." Roberson's 3-pointer at the 2:35 mark of overtime resulted in the last points for either team. Plano had six missed free throws down the stretch but made up for the misses with suffocating defense, including two big blocks by Texas A&M recruit Joe Fulce. "This team has the most heart of any I've ever played on," said Roberson, named the game MVP after scoring a team-high 24 points. "We just held them and held them, missed some free throws, and held them some more." "We had so many good things happen with all of these guys coming back from injury," Inman said. "It almost makes you think it was destined to happen." When asked what he would do for an encore? "Quit tomorrow and go surfing." For Roberson, the long season ends on an extremely happy note. Uprooted from his friends by the move, he was genuinely disheartened last week when he learned his good buddies from Lake Howell had fallen in the Florida state semifinal game to eventual champ Gainesville Eastside. He recalled how they had planned together to take down the title in 2006. Unfortunately for the Silver Hawks it wasn't to be, but for John Roberson "it was destined to happen." That's what the will to win can do for you. http://galaxyofstarsbasketball.com/_wsn/page9.html http://rivalshoops.rivals.com/viewprosp ... 88&Sport=2 http://scout.scout.com/a.z?s=43&p=8&c=1&nid=1968762 http://www.texasroundball.com/

"Plano point guard John Roberson made his commitment to Texas Tech last Sunday. It's an impressive victory for Bob Knight. Roberson had been leaning toward SMU because of a bond he formed with new coach Matt Doherty. But the power of Knight and the Big 12 won out. Roberson feels like Knight gives him his best chance to make it in professional basketball. "
That's ironic because a large # of players coached by Knight don't do so well in the NBA. Steve Alford anyone? How did Andre Emmett do last year? The last Tech player I know of in the NBA would be Darvin Ham and/or Tony Battie, coached by James Dickey. Let's talk about that starting 5 from UNC's nat'l title team, on the other hand, recruited by Coach D...
