Reasons we lost tonight...

1. DEMYRON GOT HURT -- The gameplan was obviously built around establishing the run with Martin. It was starting to work, but he got hurt at the end of the drive he dominated. After Martin was lost, we had nothing else to fall back on.

2. STUPID PENALTIES -- Add them up from the beginning. The illegal shift that killed the first drive, leading to the blocked punt. The hold that nullified that 3rd and long we converted. The taunting that brought back Henderson's awesome kick return. We can't keep shooting ourselves in the foot and expect to win.

3. KICKING GAME -- After the blocked punt, Morested didn't get another kick off solidly. He seemed gunshy after the block. And let's not talk about the missed PAT.

4. STOPPING 3rd AND LONG -- We couldn't stop it. I counted at least 6 times NTSU converted on 3rd and at least 8.

5. DEFENSE GOT TIRED -- Same old story. For whatever reason, it seemed that the defense was on the field the majority of the second half and the entire 4th quarter. See the Baylor game last year. Tired defenses can't stop the run.

Dont get caught in the trap....Demyron Martin did affect us but this is NT. Bottom Line we suck.

5. DEFENSE GOT TIRED -- Same old story. For whatever reason, it seemed that the defense was on the field the majority of the second half and the entire 4th quarter.

I think we can blame that on the offensive play calling. When you call sideline passes that get 1-2 yards each time and force your team into 3 and out situations(with draw plays called on 3rd down...a definite SMU tradition), then it's going to keep the defense on the field longer. That first drive in the 2nd half was a great drive but unfortunately, they decided to go back to what wasn't working and so, we got our arses beat. End of Story.

I think these kids deserve a better fate and are much more talented than what their coaches give them credit for. It would be nice if, for once, their coaches actually believed in them and let them actually play.

The defense shut down UNT for 35-40 minutes. They absolutely shut them down. They just couldn't hold it forever. Jamario remembered how to run, Dickey discovered the option owns us... and we had bad penalties/execution that murdered our chances.

We were NOT outplayed. We killed OURSELVES. After enough blowing up our own chances, momentum carried UNT through.

All you people that sit here and claim you have given up on the program...it's week 2. Christ.

Wow -- we're 0-2...Just like Tulsa was last year before they won the C-USA championship.



Look at the bright side...Colorado/Dan Hawkins just dropped to 0-2 after losing to Colorado State.

I think playcalling was the reason. We started off using that gay "Pistol" formation Nevada has made so popular and that's not the type of system this team runs. Our only scoring drive we went 4 wide the whole time and did quick passing. That seemed to work, why didn't we continue to do that?

On another note I htink if Willis is in and we aren't doing quick passes he seems to get happy feet in the pocket, Slater seemed more comfortable in the pocket to me

Wow -- we're 0-2...Just like Tulsa was last year before they won the C-USA championship.

No one is knocking the defense. It was the defense that kept us in the game. Second, we weren't outplayed...we were outcoached. While UNT was able to make the necessary adjustments against our defense, SMU wasn't able to do the same. That first drive in the 2nd half showed a lot of what this offense could do but somehow, rather than open it up by passing the ball vertically, they went back to the same 1-2 yard horizontal crap that UNT was eating up all game. The team isn't going to have much of a chance when you get that conservative.

Also, I think Tulsa is the worst team you could have picked for a comparison. I seem to recall that they beat the same university last year by the score of 54-2. Obviously,we won't be able to duplicate that feat this season.

I have a new theory: Willis CAN'T throw the ball down field. There were two passes that were over 10 yards, both going for incompletions. The one to Pellerin (I think) in the front of the endzone should have been caught. The one to Sanders around the 5 yard line should have been caught. The only reason, I have concluded, that we don't throw the ball down the field is because a long toss from Willis takes too much out of him, and he has to regain his power, kinda like using the turbo button in NBA Jamz.

But who cares? We still suck.

Good call. The ball to Sanders was from Slater. And no, like I said, that pass should have been caught. Tough catch or not, the ball to Pellerin should have been caught as well. That's what wide receivers do.
