The Lows and Highs of SMU FootballI was sitting in the stands when SMU went for the tie against Arkansas that cost them the National Championship in the 80's.
I ran out on the field with the rest of the crowd when we came from behind to defeat UConn, with the first win after the Death Penalty in the "Miracle on Mockingbird Lane." I sat in the stands as UH totally humiliated us 97 - 21. I taped the Dallas Morning News on my dorm room door in graduate school, when the same SMU team got even with that UH school (curse them forever!) just a few years later, beating them 56 to something. But I have to say, this is up there for one of the top low points in SMU football history. What a terrible way to start out a very promising season. I have not given up on them (as a die hard smu fan I never will), but . . .
This was one of the WORST losses for me. What PITIFUL, PITIFUL performance, this was an absolute EMBARRASSMENT!!!!!
This makes our effort against Tulane last year almost tolerable. As bitter a loss as I can ever remember. Especially with all of the "expectations" Why do I let myself ever believe in this hype.

Especially with all of the "expectations" Why do I let myself ever believe in this hype. Because each fall we hope our team has a chance. Isn't college football a doube edged sword? "Don't ever underestimate the heart of a champion" - Rudy T.
I hope you know that at last years Tulane game many of the players were still fairly dehydrated from the A&M game the week before, but yes this was not a good performance by SMU. It seemed like everything that could've gone wrong went wrong. We'd get a big return then have a penalty bring it back, convert a 4th down then another penalty bring it back.
We just flat out didn't show up and shot ourselves in the foot
What really sucks is that I made that long drive up I35 only to endure this load of cr@p!
I could almost swallow a loss at Denton if the team were even partially performing at a 1A level. I'm not sure what I was watching, but it sure wasn't quality college football from the team in white. Something has to be done and soon. This team tonight looked worse at times compared to last year. Where is the confidence exhibited at the end of last year? Why are we constantly throwing laterals with our depth at receiver? Why can't we block for our kickers? Where is our running game? Where is that wide open, high-flyin' offensive playbook that is collecting dust somewhere? It may take a while to get over this. This sunshiner/optimistic fan's sun is just about set.
From what I heard last year College station was unbelievably hot that day and players just didn't properly hydrate and if you remember Texas State did fairly good against A&M after they played us so the A&M players were unproperly hydrated too
I understand, and I really dont want to beat this into the ground, but if they were still dehydrated a week later they should have been in a hospital.
This has gotten way off topic from the original point of the thread, so I'm just going to leave it at that. Try not to choke on the Kool-Aid.
