Question- please respondThis is the first time in PB's tenure where people have been calling for his head on ponyfans and NO ONE has stepped up on his behalf. No matter how bad it used to be, there was always at least a few that were in support of him. So my question in all seriousness, is there anyone who supports Bennett at this point? I would genuinely like to see if anyone supports Bennett and would appreciate responses.
I would say if we lose either of the next 2 games he will probably get fired that week. I would also say if we don't finish AT LEAST 6-6 he will get fired. Really Orsini would run him out of town if he finished with anything less than 7 wins but I doubt we feel like eating another contract from a coaching disaster so soon after eating Tubbs'.

Although I strongly suggest it's Phil Bennett's screen name, because no person on planet Earth is willing to defend Phil Bennett...unless it's Phil Bennett. ---------------

The bottom line is that we should let orsini worry about the progress of the athletic program and not bad mouth Bennett period.. B/c no one on this board could be a college coach or any type of coaching position that is a profession.. So lets just hope for performances like the last three games of last season and pray that the team turns it around.. we are still 0-0 in conf play and that is all that matters..
TP, no one on here is claiming to be qualified to coach college football. All I am saying is everyone seems to be calling for PB's head and I have not seen anyone really argue or give reason for keeping him. It is the first time that I can recall that the board is unanimously in favor of dumping a coach and I am curious if there are people out there that actually want Bennett to stay. And you can say things like we are 0-0 in conference and thats all that matters but it simply is not true. You can't just sweep this crap performance vs UNT under the rug by saying it does not matter because its a non conference game. Getting your butt handed to you by an inferrior team matters.

"NO ONE has stepped up on his behalf"
Stallion normally opposes firing the SMU coach so I presume he wants to keep Coach Phil until we change the "system". Coach Phil seems like a mucher nicer fellow than Cavan but I doubt that will make a difference with "the Orsini ax" which has already been swinging like crazy in the athletic department. ![]() C-ya @ Milos!
yes it does not matter.. we have 8 conf games left (i.e. all of them) and if we win 6 games in conf play then we will have a legitimate chance of going to the conf championship and that will probably equal an automatic bowl bid.. so yes our non conf schedule DOES NOT MATTER.. we could go 4-0 in non conf and then go 2-6 in conf and be "bowl eligible" at 6-6...But we would probably not be invited to a bowl b/c our attendence would not be enticing to any bowl..
I am way more into hoops, but this is the first time in several years I have seen this much outrage after a fball game. Everyone seems to have reached their boiling point.
The last few games things seemed to be clicking last yr - despite a few new personel, too fall this far is crazy.
What're the odds given NO OFFENSE ![]()
We lost one game against a team we should have beaten this year. Let's wait and see what happens next week. The team did what our teams have done the past 10 years, underperformed in a game where we were favored. Is that bad coaching? Or are the players just not taking it seriously when we are favored? I don't know. That is the question our coaches need to be asking this week. I for one hope that we are underdogs the rest of the season.
I have always liked Bennett, and I don't think that firing him now would be a good idea by any measure. My primary issue has always been with the OC. This gimmick offense has never produced anything close to a strong offensive system. What is worse is that the play calling is predictable. Run up the middle, 5 yard pass to the left, 5 yard pass to the right. Did I miss anything? Plus, how many times can we run Demyron in a row and expect that the defense isn't going to figure out that another run is coming. They are stacking the line and we don't dare throw down the field. How is a 5 yard stop route or a WR screen going to force the secondary back? You have to put the players in a position to suceed and I don't think that we are calling the plays to do it.
That being said, I now have mixed feelings about Bennett. I think he is a solid defensive guy, but the special teams problems are starting to get under my skin. How many punts need to be blocked until we realize that special teams are an important part of the game? And if I see one more block in the back, fumbled return, or missed PAT I am going to pull my hair out. All in all, I think we have to let the season play out. Unless we go to conference 0-4, Bennett should finish out the season at least. Once we know the result of this year we will know how much Orsini and Bennett are willing to do for the program. At this point, I think Bennett and Burns will be headed out of town.
We could have - and should have - run DeMyron all freaking day if he'd stayed healthy. UNT was nowhere close to finding an answer for him. He was one a pace for 220 yards. Don't know how that would have changed the outcome, but I'm guess we would have had more points and kept the "vaunted" UNT offense off the field. In fact, I'll go so far as to suggest we would have won. We would have won ugly, but we would have won. I'd like to think.
Hope Martin's OK. See everyone on The Boulevard! GO MUSTANGS! Proud to be a PonyFan
