2006 SMU Home Football ScheduleSeptember 16 Sam Houston St.
September 23 Arkansas St. October 14 Marshall October 31(Halloween Nite) UAB November 11 Houston November 19 Tulsa Without Tech, Baylor, Oklahoma St and TCU to pad our attendance figures can SMU average 10,000 actual Butts in Seats? 12,000?
What the matter? Facilities not good enough for you. You have just proven what kind of a "fan" you are.
I can't blame someone for not wanting to come from out of town to see a losing team play. To fly or drive, buy tickets, get a hotel, etc etc is a lot of money to watch a product on the field that is tough to stomach. I will be there next weekend bc I have already planned the trip but I don't plan on investing in plane tickets for every home game to watch us get whooped by other NCAA bottom feeders weekly.
I never drive. It costs me $300.00 each trip I make and to all home games. So now I guess fandom is based on the price of the game. It cost you $1,000 when they were thought to win. What changed in the definition of fan? Again, are the facilities not good enough or are you just too cheap? Grow ujp and enter the real world Clown.
So in other words, you are not a fan either. Do not be ashamed. You can join the others who only claimed to be fans.
You caught me. ![]() I'll be at SHSU and I will be at the Rice game. Sorry that I don't meet the requirement of flying in for every game to be a true fan in your book.
To be honest, anyone who still comes on this board right now has to be a fan, especially after last night's performance. ![]()
to be fair, I expect most of the die hards on this board are either part of an ever dwindling group of current students who support the program or are part of SMU's 1500. For those who don't understand that phrase (SMU's 1500), it's the approximate number of alumni who are hard core supporters...they are Mustang Club members, will buy season tickets for fball and bball and will make every home game and several road games every year. These fanatics will actually be in the stands when SMU tips it off against Paul Quinn this year...and they will be there for SHSU in hopes the team we all expected SMU to have this year shows up and wins easily over a I-AA opponent.
I once proudly claimed to be among the 1500 but can no longer make that claim since I moved away from Dallas. These days my patience is being tested. Yes, I still give to the Mustang Club, I have my airline tickets for the weekend of the Houston game and I had plenned to make the road trip to ECU, but after last night I'm questioning whether I want to make that trip to Greenville, NC. Any other east coast Mustangs making that trip? As they say, misery loves company.
I am in the real world; that is why I am not spending $1000 to go to a football game when I have a young child. I give money to SMU every year. How fun would it be? There will not even be many students there. But yes, Ford sucks. Attendance figures prove it. Willis to slot receiver!
O.K. McClown...you really have lost it. Ford sucks? It's one of the finest facilities (given it's size) in the country and SMU is incredibly fortunate to have several wealthy alumni who REALLY CARE about SMU football to have donated the funds necessary to make that stadium a reality. I wish we had it back in the SWC days
Let me clarify an earlier statement primarily on behalf of ICON. I can certainly appreciate someone not spendng money to go to a football game out of town if they have beter uses for the funds, like feeding their family. The point I was making (and I was wrong when including Icon) was if you already have the trip planned and were scheduled to come and are backing out because we lost a game that we should have won, then you can not be considered a true fan. McClown clearly stated he had cancelled his trip meaning it was planned and now he was not going because they lost a game. That is not a fan. Icon said he was coming because he already had the trip planned but would probably consider not coming from out of town in the future. I can understand unless you have ample discretionary income to do so. But if winning is the only criteria for being a fan, then folks you all chose the wrong team about 20 years ago.
What do you consider a fan then? Because most of us sat through that 0-12 season and yet we're still here. We sat through the Bennett era that has shown loss after loss after loss after loss. What else do you want from us? To sit through another beating, this time by Sam Houston State? no thank you. ![]()
Go to the games and cheer for your team. You can not do that with a bag on your head. If you need to have a winner only to be a fan then stay in high school and cheer for your school. The players have been humiliated on the field. They do not need it from the stands.
