Bennett's state of mindWhat is Bennett's state of mind right now? He knows his head is on the chopping block and the alumni want him out. I think how the team responds, and more importantly how the coaching improves, over the next few games will show if he has the ability to be a D-1 coach (and not just a good coordinator). He truly has nothing to lose so if he doesn't open up the offensive and defensive play calling now, it never will be open. If I was him I would just open this thing up and be the aggressor instead of always letting the other team set the pace. I used to scratch my head at the games and now I do it by my computer with his constant conservative play calling, especially against lesser opponents.

That wouldn't be far from the truth, as much as each of us -- myself included -- likes to think of ourselves as the next Vince Lombardi.
Don't worry about Coach Bennett's frame of mind. He knew alums were angry last year (i.e. after Tulane), and after the 0-12 year. For his sake, I hope he gets it turned around, because I'd like to see him succeed -- and succeed at SMU. "It's 106 miles to Chicago, we've got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark and we're wearing sunglasses."
... "Hit it."
Even funnier when you consider it's something he actually said either last year or the year before
I beg to differ, this situation is completely different. Last year we "were still a year away", the 0-12 season sucked but people wrote it off as growing pains and he was still in the honey moon phase. This year there were high expectations across the board, including from him. I'm sure he is sweating and he should be. I just hope he can respond and make his team respond. #NewLobCity
Yes, he had high expectations this year, but he always has high expectations -- he has expected to win since he got here, and I wouldn't want to hear anything else from my team's coach. Coach Bennett is one of the most confident, optimistic men I've ever met, and he always believes his players have a chance to win, whether we're playing North Texas Vocational School or Ohio State.

![]() Wow, I've made several million off of this little escapade as a childhood fan of Hayden Fry's championship at ol smoo. I'm set up for life
I was a freshman at SMU when Fry was cut lose. Evidentally the alums were not satisfied with a 7-4 season, which included a 13-9 loss to Texas in Austin where TWO SMU touchdowns were called back by the refs (paid off?) for holding. Firing him was the biggest mistake that the administration made in the last century IMO! I wish he was young enough that we could hire him back. He knew how to coach an offense!
