Let's keep something in focus today, folks. Five years ago today a LOT of people in this country lost a lot more than a football game. I know we're all upset about what has happened to SMU football in recent years. But, in the long run, it's nothing even close to what happened to this country on September 11, 2001. Please...just stop and think about that. God bless America.

This is my father's birthday. He turns 83. On that day, I called him in Minneapolis and said "I'd wish you a happy 78th but because of today, it's tough.'' He had no idea what happened until I told him to turn on the news. So this day really gives me a bizarre set of feelings. But my dad is still going strong.

It's a different world. That's for sure. And this is why we are the greatest country in the world because we can and will rally from things like this.

Myself and a group of students circled the flagpole and had a moment of silence for those lost on this day 5 years ago. We passed out American flag pins and told each other where we were the day it happened. We will never forget nor forgive.
