New Rivals Article on Charles

Postby me@smu » Fri Aug 18, 2006 10:20 am

Allen, Texas running back Charles Opeseyitan has had a change of plans in his recruitment. One team has fallen off the list and several others are moving their way up.

Charles Opeseyitan says that he's opened things up to a lot of schools.
Recently, the 5-foot-10, 186-pounder who was an all-district selection as a junior, took a visit to Oklahoma State. The Cowboys were in the driver's seat for the talented runner but apparently now that's changed.

"I guess they weren't taking a running back yet and waiting on somebody else," Opeseyitan said. "That's the school I wanted to go to and I didn't want to wait on that. So I left that alone and I'm looking at other teams now."

Those other teams include Tulsa, SMU, Iowa State, Colorado State, and Utah.

"I'm checking out everybody now," Opeseyitan said. "Those are the schools we've talked about the most though."

Opeseyitan hasn't set up any visits but says that once his schedule calms down, he'll start setting up official visits.

"Recruiting is kind of in the back of my mind because I'm getting ready for the season and I'm ready to help out the team," He said. "I'm not worried about all that stuff. I'll have time to worry about that in a few weeks."

"Then I'd like to decide sometime before our first district game. I don't want to take the chance of getting hurt and being left out."

Interesting. That's two schools he seemed ready to jump at a commitment from who backed off. Arkansas and Oklahoma St.

If he pans out, it wouldn't be the first RB Arkansas missed on--anybody remember Donte Womack?

I think he is saying it makes you wonder what there is about this kid that causes schools to back off on recruiting him.

It definitely does strike me as strange in this case. Anyhow, I hope he becomes SMU's gain and other schools' loss.

Update-with other teams apparently dropping out-SMU is apparently still in the race. He's quoted as saying "I'm still looking hard at my top teams Kansas State, Purdue, SMU and Tulsa" Noticed last weeks that he had 7 catches for over 100 or 120 yards recieving so at he he might end up at more than just RB.

Wonder how tight he is with DeMyron Martin. Need to get No. 8 up there to sell him on SMU.

Charles started off strong tonight against Rowlett but got injured late in the 1st quarter I believe, he was carried off the field but from what I've heard he will be fine

Charles started off in the Rowlett game with 3 carries for 47 yards and a TD. He got injured early on in the game. He tore his ACL but his leg muscles are so strong that he is still able to walk normal and I'm not positive on his playing status

I think that bodes well for our chances of landing him. A similar injury situation landed us DeMyron, I believe.

Not that it's fortuitous that he's hurt.

Get well soon, young man. And sign with SMU.

I'd be stunned if he can try to play on a torn ACL. Hopefully other schools will back off.
We stayed with Bryan McCann last year when he was hurt, and by all accounts, he has the potential to be great. Let's hope this guy signs with SMU and has a similar recovery.

Saw the injury right in front of me. Did not look horrific but his foot stuck in the turf as he was fighting for extra yards. If he is gone for the season I would be shocked if he is not back before the season but I could be wrong. I believe that Rivals has him as the #31 back in the country and even if he is lost for the year he had 2 and half outstanding games.

DeMyron was just barely on anyone's radar and we recruited when others ignored him. His stat's became more unreal as the season wore on and the other schools jumped in late with Fran in his living room begging for a commit at the end. Lucky for us it was too little, too late.
