It's funny how money can throw people's judgment out the window.

They theoretically could, but probably not. This is a case of some slimy agents decending on the player, as contrasted with, say, a case like the one that brought the death penalty to SMU, which involved slimy school officials setting up a slush fund in house. Apples and oranges.

can someone please explain to me how this is any different than what teh payroll crew did..

the article points out that the rules were blatently disobeyed..

i bet they lose a national championship maybe and he loses the heisman..

But i bet they do not lose one [expletive] scholarship..

I have read A Payroll To Meet several times, but I still wasn't old enough to the follow the story back then..

The self loathing is unbecoming. I think most intelligent people realize many college players get paid under the table, even at schools other than SMU.

And I am not interested in redebating the whole death penalty thing. It has been talked to "death" around here.

The PAC-10 could rule Bush ineligible which would strip USC of their conference title. They wouldn't lose any bowl money, but they could have to give back a PAC-10 trophy. While this could be characterized as a lack of institutional control, the agents were not boosters affiliated with the University in any way, and schools can't police their players all the time or keep them from the world. That said, the NCAA will say "shame on you USC, hit them with a wet noodle and tell them that "Trojans" is insensitive to Greek peoples and they have to change their nickname.

Not a chance. Too much money involved in too many areas.
Slap on the wrist, at best.
