surprisingly good crowd tonight

Postby Hoop Fan » Sat Sep 16, 2006 10:04 pm

damn good compared to what i expected. we are still not big enough or strong enough, especially on defense. Pretty good performance overall, but Sam Houston racked up alot of yards on our D. Willis had a great night to say the least. But we are what we are, an undersized team with a young qb.

i woulda guessed 20k, but okay. seemed like more than half full during the second quarter. either way I'll take it after last week and playing a 1-AA opponent.

Yep, I was the one predicting 4K butts in seats. I was ecstatic to see a good turnout and even more thrilled to see the Willis aerial assault.

Nice having a week to reflect on a win! Pig Sooey State awaits.

What are you talking about? Who cares about the yards man? Most of SHSU's points were in mop up time. The D played great keeping them from scoring. And, look at the turnovers that gave our O great field position all night long. The team as a whole, O and D, was running on all eight tonight.

I didn't think the D was playing bad at all. Held SHSU scoreless for oh, 40+ minutes? 2 INTs in the first half, they came out strong and helped us start the game right. GOOOOOOO PONIES

For 3 quarters our defense came up with stops and turnovers every time it mattered. They played great. I don't think we were using all our starters in the end, and that was the only time SHSU really started moving the ball.

I'd like to point out that the student section was more than packed, and students were forced to spill over into several adjacent sections.

We're doing our part, you alumni need to get some butts in the seats on your side of the stadium.

Guys, lets not set our selves up for disappointment. We crushed an average I-AA team. We did look good, but lets hold off the "our season is saved" talk until we at least crush a bad I-A team.

one of the big problems is that our road to a bowl game is looking much tougher than in preseason with Tulane and ECU beating BCS schools and we have to play them on the road, Tulsa's complete domination of NTSU compares favorbly to our loss. The road game in Houston with Rice appears to be very competitive. UTEP took Tech to overtime, UH although not impressive against Rice had a great comeback and is now 3-0. The real problem is we can't get that potential win against NTSU back and its going to be tugh to get to 7 wins.

The real positive was the fact that Justin was able to complete some long passes downfield on nice timing patterns. This should give him some confidence for taking on our upcoming opponents.

I agree that 7 will be tough to find - but uteps game vs tech was at home, as was Tulsa's win vs UNT. This team has no business looking past anyone, but the road trip to Tulane looms large if you are trying to get to 6 or 7 wins.
