Cowbell

Postby rjhiii » Sun Sep 17, 2006 12:15 pm

So I was the guy in section 205 with the cowbell. I loved it and am pretty sure it is cooler than "third down thunder." I am thinking about buying a bunch of them and handing them out. Anyone interested in helping out?

Nothing says S.M.U more than a cowbell. I thought the NCAA outlawed cowbells due to Missisippi St.? Maybe it was the SEC.

Get a buncha plastic horns too. Blow the hell out of 'em. Don't silver plate it though, then it's no longer a noise-maker, but an "instrument". Stupid technicalities...

Need some help from you guys. I just finished going through the NCAA rules for football and can't find reference specifically to artifical noise makers. It appears that the no cowbell rule is for the SEC only. Can anyone confirm this? Don't want to spend a bunch of money and time (painting them) if they are all just going to get confiscated.

Knowing SMU they might get taken up anyway. Then again, things might be better under Orsini.

apparently the NCAA eliminated its rule in 2006 but granted the SEC authority to continue to enforce its rule. Do a search for cowbells and Mississippi St.

It appears it will be cowbells for everyone! Question is should they be blue with red SMU painted on, or vice versa?

Highly recommend you talk to sports dept first - those rent a cops we have (CSC) are itching for something to do and they seem to some poor person who is just being a fan

- this needs to be fixed if the game day experience is going to rank above a gallery clap for a nice put. .

Why not give everyone those plastic blow-up things that you beat together; those can make a lot of noise and they are officially allowed (even in red and blue colors) ??

Those are thundersticks, and that is what that annoying "third down thunder" is referring to.

We have used cowbells for years at SMU games.

From our experience the only place that would not allow them was at an Aggie game in College Station in the mid 90's that year the refs stole the game from us at the very end of the game.

The security people have never said a word to us at the Cotton Bowl or at Ford Stadium.

I think the only problem could be if someone complained that was sitting next to you, but most people are pretty cool about it, plus they know we need more noise in the stadium anyway.

Several years ago in the 90's the SMU Athletic department even handed out cowbells to like the first 5000 people at the stadium because I still have mine with the SMU logo on it.

(I wonder if we could sell those from our BLVD Tent at cost?)

COWBELLS ARE FOR.......

Postby Captain E J Smith » Sun Sep 17, 2006 4:18 pm

Cowbells are for High Schools and for calling castrated bulls in Austin.

I hate Cowbells
