I know I'm probably beating the proverbial dead Red Raider horse here...
But when you're playing a weaker opponent and your team gets up by 40, you're supposed to pull your starters, keep the ball on the ground for the most part offensively, get your backups some game experience and run out the clock.
After UNT, I would've liked nothing better than to run the score up, but I'm glad to see Bennett practiced what he preached (you who were at the Kickoff Luncheon know what I mean).
It's nice to win AND feel morally superior

Well said, PerunaPunch. Coach Bennett said he was "getting requests" to throw more, and to run blitzes, etc., on defense. He said that wouldn't be the right thing to do (in respect to the opponent), and he wanted to run base packages and get the reserves a little game experience practicing the basics of the SMU offense and defense. They did exactly that, and did it well. As you said: classy move by Coach Bennett.

I don't think we threw a single pass in the 4th qtr. To tell ya the truth, I would have like to see us execute the offense a bit better in the second half, we were outscored 14-10 and really didn't get much accomplised int he second half. I don't want to run the score up on folks, but I would like to see SMU get more of a killer instinct. Up 35-0 at half time, we need to come out with a more aggressive mentality. Plus we ran off most of the crowd it was so boring. Of coarse I stayed till Varsity was played, but that is the norm for myself.

From where I was sitting most of the crowd left at halftime and didn't come back. Once we were up 35-0 people just decided it was time to move on to other things.

Phil Bennett is no Mike Leach when it comes to class.
When Sam Houston State played Texas Tech last year, the Red Raiders said they were going to 'hang a 100 on the Bearkats'...and they continued trying to do so up until the final gun!
Thanks, Mustangs and coach Bennett for showing the true 'class' that is SMU football! I know that a LOT of my fellow Bearkat fans were impressed with the Mustangs' sportsmanship. And they'll be pulling for the Mustangs as the season progresses.

i agree with everything said here... PB is a man of class... for many of us ex players we know what it feels like to be on the otherside of a blow out, so to see PB take the high road and let some of his younger players get some good PT just reaffirms in my mind that he is what SMU football needs!

I agree.
BUT
I still would've liked to see 50 on the board.
