Get rid of the yellow shirts!

I had a great time on Saturday! Mustangs won, my friend hooked me up with some great seats in the Platinum Club, and I had a great time on the Blvd. HOWEVER, the guy that gave me the great tickets had a terrible time. The reason...THE YELLOW SHI(R)TS!

My crew and I hung out in the lower levels for pregame to watch the greatness that was the band, Peruna, and cheerleader pregame spectacular (BTW...I loved seeing all three combined into pregame). Then we headed up into the upper levels to watch the game and had no problems getting up there. Much later in the game, my friend who gave me the tickets was finally able to sit down next to me. Apparently, they told him that they had already scanned his ticket and it took talking to a manager and several other people to finally get him in. Even after he got in, he was not able to enjoy the Mustangs' win because he was still fuming from the treatment he had received.

I'm tired of fans getting treated like criminals. I know I've had many "run-ins" with the yellow shirts at both football and basketball games. A tradition for the band alumni is to go in front of the band for the post-game concert. There's been several times when we are not allowed to go down because the yellow shirts have put a wall of people at the bottom of the stairs to not let us down. There's been other times when I've not even been going to a sport event, but for some reason the yellow shirts are there and they won't let me get to the HPUMC parking lot for my Bible study.

After reading another post on here about somebody's treatment on the Blvd, I think that we need to rally together. The next on Orsini's chopping block needs to be the yellow shirts. I know my friend wrote a letter to Orsini to send this morning, but I encourage all of you to do the same if you've ever had a problem with the yellow shirts.

Could not agree more. Great game, great tailgate scene, great family atmosphere, better crowd than I expected. Only blemish were the yellow shirts harassing us in the south endzone area as we walked around with our children. Heaven forbid a child grab the rope between the sidewalk and the grassy slope area - you'd think they'd caught a freshman pouring his Jim Beam hip flask into his coke . . .

Someone needs to remind those morons that we're trying to sell a fan friendly atmosphere.

They are totally a waste of money. I loved how they had a phalanx of these idiots guarding the field in case we rushed it after our "miracle" win against SHSU. There were more of them on the field than fans in the stadium at the end.

The Yellows were harrassing two sets of elderly gentlemen who were sitting on the handicap benches on the walkway in front of us. The men were not in wheelchairs, but probably would have had a difficult time navigating the steps. I am certain that they would have yielded to a wheelchair in a heartbeat. Essentially, they told the Yellows to "get lost" (or something similar) and they sat there the whole game. These Yellows are hourlies who have limited people skills and just wanna play Barney Fife. On a lighter note, I appreciated the courtesy and service provided by the concession stand manned by the Roosevelt High School band. Nice kids.

there are probably the same number of "yellow shirts" at the SMU games as there were at Ole Miss when I was there...and the attendance at UM was more than 3 times the attendance at SMU. Seems wasteful to me.

It is wasteful if they aren't promoting a good gameday environment which encourages fans to show up. The yellows are going to start scaring away people away. As a Mustang fan, I don't mind putting up with the yellows. But, if we expect to bring in other Dallas sports fans, we need to get rid of them. By far, SMU has the rudest gameday security/staff. When I go to Mavericks games, Rangers games, Cowboys games, tcu games, high school football games, I don't ever have a problem with the security/staff. When it comes to parking or gate security, we have the worst.

As far as concessions, I think we have some of the best. I love having the high school bands serve concessions. Maybe we should hire high school football players to be our gameday staff. :wink:

The thing that gets me about the yellow shirts is that they are incessantly pissy and aggravated. I hate the attitude.

I felt like we were on "lock-down" at the game. I saw soooo many people upset w/ security guards for policies they themselves couldn't even explain. I have already sent an e-mail to Mr. Orsini.

I emailed Mr. Orsini about these very issues prior to the first game. I mentioned how well Notre Dame's versions of the yellow shirts performed when I was up there last year, and how year in and year out we hear horror stories about yellow shirt and parking lot attendants.

Some of my comparisons:

Parking anywhere within a five mile radius of ND:
parking lot attendant "hi, welcome to Notre Dame...you'll need to go up
there, take a right, and they'll get you in that lot. Enjoy the game!"

vs. Ford "Keep it moving. What!? No, you can't park here. No, I don't know where you can park. Just not here. Those neighborhoods? Well other people might park there, but that doesn't mean you can [note: PARK THERE!]. Now move along.

Notre Dame yellow shirts: Wear a tie. Usually a grandfatherly figure working the stadium 20 or more years. Comment to my stepson: "Afternoon, son. Let me see that stub...okay, you're going to go up these stairs and talk to Bob up there and he'll show you your row. Careful now."

SMU: see this thread.

I mentioned other things which could be improved as well to enhance gameday experience. The guys hoisting the net for PATs and FGs at Notre Dame, for instance, wear ties as well, and white gloves.

I also mentioned that as a Mavs season ticket holder as well, I know that many of the game time amenities at the AAC are a result of fan input.

At any rate, I recieved no response. The no response bothers me much, much less than the fact that the problems persist.

Anyone working as stadium security is probably from a poor family. I'm sure nothing gives them more pleasure than asserting their authority over "rich" SMU students and alums.

Which is a stereotype? That stadium ushers and traffic directors don't make alot of money, or that those who don't make alot of money would like to stick it to those who do? The former is obvious, the latter is what I would do, and what usually is done.

Sometimes, stereotypes can be true. Like how Texas Tech fans are classless.
