Since both schools are public universities, it seems like playing each other would be a real boost for the state economy. Good rivalies include:
Colo. - Colo. State (one is non-BCS)
Kansas - Kansas State
Miss. - Miss State
Ariz - Ariz State
Okla - Okla State
NM - NM State (one is non-BCS)
NC - NC State
Mich - Mich State

Neither New Mexico, nor New Mexico State are BCS

You mean like the Mean Green? What if they called themselves the "Angry Red" or the "Slightly Agitated Red"?

Actually both New Mexico and NMSU are non-BCS despite the MWC's protests to the contrary.
In Arkansas the media has taken the argument that BCS schools don't play in-state except in-conference or when there are two name schools in state hook, line and sinker. Most would be shocked at these lists.
So far played or scheduled this year BCS vs. non-BCS in-state, THIS YEAR.
Michigan State vs. Eastern Michigan
Michigan vs. Central Michigan
Ohio State vs. Bowling Green
Purdue vs. Ball State
West Virginia vs. Marshall
USF vs. UCF
Cincinnati vs. Akron
Colorado vs. Colorado State
Texas vs. North Texas
Texas vs. Rice
Texas Tech vs. SMU
Texas Tech vs. UTEP
Texas Tech vs. TCU
Baylor vs. TCU
Stanford vs. San Jose State
Florida vs. UCF
Tennessee vs. Memphis
LSU vs. UL Lafayette
LSU vs. Tulane
Indiana vs. Ball State
It even extends to I-AA. BCS vs. non-I-A instate, again only this year.
Texas vs. Sam Houston (I-AA)
Purdue vs. Indiana State (I-AA)
Illinois vs. Eastern Illinois (I-AA)
Arizona State vs. Northern Arizona (I-AA)
North Carolina State vs. Appalachain State (I-AA)
Miami vs. FAMU (I-AA)
Iowa State vs. Northern Iowa (I-AA)
South Carolina vs. Wofford (I-AA)
Vanderbilt vs. Tennessee State (I-AA)

A lot of these are in-conference rivals...that is totally different. For instance, sure, Ole Miss plays MS State (both SEC), but we NEVER play C-USA Southern Miss

Why not?
1977 Ole Miss 19 USM 27
1978 Ole Miss 16 USM 13
1979 Ole Miss 8 USM 38
1980 Ole Miss 22 USM 28
1982 Ole Miss 28 USM 19
1983 Ole Miss 7 USM 27
1984 Ole Miss 10 USM 13
Mississippi State was 4-10 against USM in the last 14 games before dumping the series.

Their stadium is half the size of the one at Ole Miss. I don't know whey they don't play more...I guess just b/c they aren't in the SEC. Plus, Ole Miss typically needs a softer non-conf schedule to make up for the SEC games...

i would loooove to see ole miss and smu play again - i think the last time they did was '99?
They probably don't play USM for the same reason Ark. doesn't play Ark. St., to avoid those years when the under-dog comes out on top. Seems like they could be fun in-state games though.
After all, that A&M - SMU game last year was a blast
