Miss St. played on TV a couple of weeks ago and the commentators talked at length about the cowbells and the fact that they were supposedly outlawed. The offcials said they were going to let them use them until smeone complained. Kind of like Baylor's Band last year. If Bennett had complained, the band would have been penalized. It sounded like if the opposition had complained about the cowbells MS St. would have been penalized. But I do not think it is just cowbells, I think it is any artificial nosie maker. If we had too many "thunder sticks" and people to use them we could be penalized. I hope I live to see that.

I have done my research and placed my order. I will be handing out cowbells at my tent and to the people that sit around me. They will be blue with red SMU painted on them. Oh, and I will be handing out red and blue Jell-O shots again as a reward for using the cowbell. No one ever complains about those.
A big part of the reason I like the cow bell idea is that the people who sit around me (ie old alumni who think they are at a polo match) are much more likely to sit in their seat and ring a cowbell than to yell or bang "thunder sticks" together. The bell is also more permenant. No fear of deflation and strudy enough to last for a season.
Depending on how it goes I may try and hand 100 bells per game. Hope that a continuous supply will help make it a tradition.

Yes, we need more cowbell.
It's a crappy job but someone's gotta do it.

I was almost kicked out of a Moody last year when I brought a cowbell to an SMU basketball game. Asst. AD Jim Osborne had one of the CSC flunkies come up and tell me that I had to quit ringing it because it was an 'artificial noisemaker' and those are prohibited by the NCAA. I traded emails back and forth with Osborne about this. Here's the response he gave me:
I admire your loyalty and support to the SMU Basketball team, but unfortunately the rules will not allow us to permit any artificial noisemakers at basketball games. My boss instructs me to follow these rules so I do. Blame the NCAA not us, we are just doing our jobs. Thanks, Jim
Of course his 'boss' was Jim Copeland.
I spoke to Steve Orsini and Matt Doherty about this at the SMU Coaches' Happy Hour a few weeks ago. Their response: GO AHEAD AND MAKE NOISE!

Well, surprise, no one at SMU replied to my emails asking about cowbells at football games. So I decided to just go ahead with it.
Last night I had some friends over and we cleaned up the bells and stuck pony stickers on them. They look sharp and are loud enough to annoy my wife.
For anyone who is interested, I will be handing them out along with my Jell-O shots for as long as the last on Saturday. Can't miss me on the boulevard, what with the candlabras and all. If that isn't enough of a clue, look for the car with the most school spirit on the boulevard.

If I can't get there in time to get one of yours, I'll bring my own! I think this ia a GREAT idea, rjhiii!!!!
Word of caution: Do you think the yellow shirts will confiscate them when we're entering Ford Stadium on Saturday? I wouldn't put anything past those bastards.

If you are worried about the Yellow Shirts, just wear a jacket and stick them in the pocket. Count me in for a cowbell!

1) No, I am not sure it was the cowbell. Could have been the beer
2) I will set aside cowbells for those that request them. You are going to have to introduce yourself by your screen name though
3) I took in a cowbell last game and got no problems from the yellow shirts. Of course I was carrying it in my pocket...

it shouldn't be hard to get them in. put the bell in your pocket. NOT in your wife's purse (they search purses). i've been successful every game in walking in with a bottle of whiskey or gin in my pocket, sometimes even sticking out of my back pocket.
you guys need to lighten up on the CSC (yellow shirts as you call them). think TSA. We have to have security for insurance purposes. no way around it. CSC is the largest provider (and most cost effective since off duty cops cost time and a half). Like TSA, you're not getting the most qualified people for the job of public relations since most i would guess don't even have a GED. Your game experience (like air travel) will be much better if you just accept that it is there, and work with it.
Ok this is getting ridiculous...I agree with Dutch on THIS ONE POST by him totally
