WHY wont UP-HP allow beer and liquor sells for the SMU football games...that is what gets numbers in the stadium.

Smu says they want to make money but they are losing money until they can solve the problem of alcohol being sold during the games...

BEER + Fans = MORE PEOPLE AT GAMES!!!
I would think that this is as plain as the nose on your face, J.T. supporta.

First, the majority of college students are under the legal age of drinking. Yeah, I know. College age kids - no matter how old they are - are going to drink. But the university isn't going to make it any easier for them by making it available at home football games where one of their 'over the age' buddies will buy it for them. Liability issues. I'm sure the lawyers on the board can address this issue better than me.

Second, SMU is promoting a 'family gameday atmosphere' for its games at Ford. I doubt having adult fans stumbling drunk in front of young fans is what the administration is looking for.

Your formula of BEER + Fans = MORE PEOPLE AT GAMES is flawed.

The formula is WINNING = Fans + Positive Gameday Atmosphere

i agree that the fans who left suck.... hell i was watching it online and just cracked open another six pack for the 2nd half... that beiing said and the argument of selling booze at games is a never ending argument... I just started law school at the university of tulsa and was suprised to find them selling beer at the bar in the student center... they also passed a new rule to sell beer at the games, which unfortunately was reversed the day before the first game! it is a fact that if they sold booze in the stadium there would be more students at the game. and if you want proof of that look at the alumni up in the box!

Well, I don't see the blvd during the game, but from what I hear there are still quite a bit of people tailgating during the game. Why not charge a cooler fee and make them all sit in one area in the stadium (student section!) and let 'em at it. This of course would need them to drop the "dry campus" thing.

Every Mustang blowout which occured during the first half that I've
attended, the fans have bailed out in the second half.

Thats true for most games in any sport. Game's over.

I've been attending SMU games since 1963 when I saw SMU beat
Arkansas 14 - 7 for my first trip to the Cotton Bowl.

Look, this is ridiculous. I don't know of another place where alcohol plays more of a role in everyday life than in Baton Rouge and at LSU tailgates, but when game time roles around, everybody with a ticket is in the stands screaming their @sses off. And there is no alcohol allowed in Tiger Stadium. Stop being panty-waste, spoiled brats and enjoy your time at your school's football games.

Personally, my underage self doesn't care. I'm simply saying if it helps get people in the stadium, and if that would attract more than our current policy then I am game for it.

Houston sends security out to the tailgating areas and "encourages" people to get into the stands and allows just two people to man each tailgate during the game. The practice was started during the Grambling game with good success.

Great win! Clearly, SMU is going to be a load for any of the C-USA schools this year. I'm sure not taking November 11 for granted after the Ponies won in Houston last year.

Looks like Willis is the real deal. Maybe it just took him some time to get into a rhythm. Just see how much Stafford has struggled at UGa.

You could hand out $100.00 bills at the gate and the students and the locals citizens for that matter would not come out in the manner we would like. Attendence has been a problem at SMU forever. Get a winning team and we can fill Ford without a problem. Filling the Cotton Bowl or Texas Stadium would be a problem in CUSA reagrdless of the record. In the SWC days it took UT, Arkansas or A&M to fill up the stands and that was depressing because their fans outnumbered ours. Alcohol will not change the attendance. For every drinker it would bring in a family would stay home because the would not want their children to be surrounded by the "drunks".

First, after the North Texas game, we are and will be no one's "darlings".
Second, no one can get excited about Ark. St.
Third, if this security issue keeps up and the Blvd. is tightly controlled the only students attending the game in our "family atmosphere" will be gradeschoolers, who would rather be anywhere else!

If you're talking about selling it in the stadium.. it's an NCAA policy, not SMU.
What we obtain too cheap.. we esteem too lightly. It is persistence alone that gives everything its value.

Look. Even if every single undergrad at SMU came for the entire game they would fill only 1/5th of the stadium.

You can whine and moan all day long about students not showing, but at both SHSU and AKST I spent time sitting on both sides of the stadium, and I can tell you that the ticket-buying (as opposed to student) folks are the ones slacking.

Yeah we need more students there, but be realistic. This isn't LSU - you don't have a 30,000+ student body to draw from and a whole state of just your alumni.
