I used to feel the same way about the band, but as you get older, you learn to really appreciate what they do and their limited program

Isn't it more important to have the best-looking twirler in the US? I mean, this is SMU, you should be able to find one outstanding hottie who is serviceable with a baton.

Most college bands have a repetoire that includes classic favorites like the Imperial Death March from Star Wars, Black Sabbath's Iron Man and other fun songs to get the crowd into it.

Little jazzy ditties and the same 2 SMU spirit songs make me want to leap from the top of Ford by about the midpoint of the 2nd Quarter.

Band folks - is there a legitimate reason for this? It really drives myself (and PLENTY of other students) nuts.

I tell you what, give some money to the band so they can afford to fill out their repetoire with the music you want. Until then it ain't going to change. The people that financially support the band are the ones that like the music that is being played. Funny how that kind of thing works.

are you serious.. we have to give money to a band.. they are the band, we should be complaining about them playing too much not too little.. over the last two years i counted many times when they are sitting on their butts not playing.. Hell they play all the time at smu bball games.. they used to play thriller and that was awesome.. i don't think they have played thriller at the football games..

Peruna 2001... TAMU plays alot more than 5 songs, they are constantly playing songs..

Back in they day the SMU band created a new rule in the college rulebooks.. they were known to play perune over 200 x's a game... Since they are not allowed to play peruna over and over.. Fill it in w/ some new stuff please or atleast play Thriller, the students love that song at bball game..

I like how the alumni band moves around the stadium.. very good touch..

I've attended a lot of SMU A$M games in the past, and actually only
heard the Aggies play about 4 songs, and Mary had a Little Lamb was
one of them.

The Mustang Band is TRADITIONALLY known for playing swing band
music, and jazz from the 40's, and 50's with some new stuff thrown in.

So forgive my ignorance here, but what makes one twirler better than another? Are we just counting drops? They all seem to do a lot of the same things.

Not trying to badmouth her, or any other twirler, for that matter. I've just never paid attention to twirlers or bands or cheerleaders (OK, that last part is a lie.)

The current bandsmen can answer better than I, but apparently she has one quite a few national awards in twirling.

I think she was the cosmic champion of all things twirling.

Did someone really suggest a friggin Star wars song? That is about as nerdy as it gets. Somebody suggests Thriller??? Are you kidding me? Iron Man?? Are you people stuck in a 1985 bad movie or something? That stuff is just about as old as Glen Miller - only not as cool. You might as well pass out those hats with the fuzzy feathers and get a bunch of really fat girls with flags that dont match anything that not even their mothers want to watch.

Nothing wrong with mixing in some Mustang Band style new stuff - I know their book of music is acutally huge for a Band with not much help in the money dept. But lets keep a least a couple of traditions at this university - and for my money you can't play Peruna enough - I dont care who says different - the band should play it the whole time we have the ball every offensive possesion - just lower the volumne like you used to do before the snap so they can audible if need be.

If the SMU band ever changes we are finished as a University. Its just that simple.
