Re: Who is your favorite mustang of all time?All4SMU: It is.
Re: Who is your favorite mustang of all time?Basketball-Kevin Lewis, he brought enthusiasm to the game, may not have been the best, but he was fun to watch.
Football-Doak, enough said, James and Dickerson are not far behind. Golf-Payne. Great guy and awesome golfer. ------------------ Please click on an ad when you get a chance. Re: Who is your favorite mustang of all time? Those are all really good posts and I think it would be unfair to ask me to pick just one. Some of my favorites other than the ones mentioned, start way back with Bobby Wilson "The Corsicana Comet" who was cheated out of being the SWC's first Heisman winner. He made the winning catch in the TCU SMU game of 1935(national championship year). I was too young to see him play, but was very impressed when I read about him in Dan Jenkin's book about the SWC. Jenkins spoke very highly of him, and he's a horned frog.
Some of my favorites(and there are many)I got to see play post death penalty would have to be Chad Patton, Craig Swann, and Jason Wolf(all time SWC reception leader, or was at one time). Those were post DP players--the type of guys that came to play on Saturdays win or lose. I'm not trying to downplay the greatness of Doak and Dickerson and our other great ones by any means, but I think they deserve every bit of the respect as our other greats. ... _ _ .._
Re: Who is your favorite mustang of all time?Doak Walker and Payne Stewart.
I admire everything Doak Walker stood for as a player at SMU and throughout his lifetime. What a great football player! As for Payne, the greatest golfer to come out of SMU! And, he did love SMU. I read in the last issue of Sports Illustrated that several things were recovered from his plane crash - his wedding band and his SMU ring. So he must have always worn this ring. I grew up in the same town as Payne and attended school with him (although I am a bit older). He was a great guy and brought so much to the game of golf and to people. His humor, warmth and spirit will be greatly missed. ------------------ Go Ponies! -MustangMom Go Mustangs!!<BR>-MustangMom
Re: Who is your favorite mustang of all time?Kevin Lewis... I will have to let him know that somebody put him among the best.
My personal favorite would have to be Bordo. I haven't seen anybody consistently work as hard as he did/does. He had amazing drive and the results of that work ethic were pretty obvious on Saturdays.
Re: Who is your favorite mustang of all time?Doak Walker
However, Ed Burnett sang the best. Long live Thomas Sowell!
Re: Who is your favorite mustang of all time?Jerry Ball, great d-lineman who can stay healthy.

Re: Who is your favorite mustang of all time?Great call Meritt! Jerry Ball is a great player. How many years has he played now? 15? That guy is a total stud!
Re: Who is your favorite mustang of all time?Jerry Ball has played in the NFL for 13 years, he currently plays for the Minnesota Vikings.

Re: Who is your favorite mustang of all time?Mr. Ball also played running back in High School. Sit back and picture that one for a moment. And no, I didn't make that one up.

Re: Who is your favorite mustang of all time?Football: Doak. When my dad was a little boy in Throckmorton, he wrote to Doak at SMU. He still keeps the postcard reply he got, in which Mr. Walker thanks him for the invitation to visit Throcky and for the kind words he wrote. Class like that is a rare thing.
Basketball: Jim Krebs, based on what I've heard about him. Men's Tennis: Richey Reneberg. Women's Tennis: Clare Evert.
Re: Who is your favorite mustang of all time?About Jerry Ball -- the guy also could dunk a basketball even after he topped 300 pounds. Remember the kid from Terrell some of us wanted SMU to sign this year (Brandon Kennedy)? Same deal -- close to 300 pounds, plays point guard on the Terrell High hoops team, and he can jam the ball. We may regret not letting him in school....
Re: Who is your favorite mustang of all time? That kid from Terrell is the one I wish we had in school, but, I hear that he did not want to come to SMu , an comfort thing.
Kid from Houston is 6-3 and SOLID 285 said that he can play d-tackle next year as he was leaving the red blue game!!!! Cool Mustang Militia: Fight the good fight"
Re: Who is your favorite mustang of all time?I don't know, Bus. That kid from Houston didn't look like he was 6-3 OR 285. Seems like SMU has fallen into the habit of inflating recruits...
