New Turf?

Postby MrMustang1965 » Thu Jul 03, 2003 5:38 pm

Is there any chance that someone with a good camera can post some pics of the ongoing placement of the new turf at Ford Stadium? Maybe even do a 'progression'-type slide show showing 'before' and 'after' photos...just wondering.

Too late for before...the grass is gone. All that is out there now is the sand subgrade. However, I'll bet the webbies are working on getting pics...and they are bound to have access to the real before photos.

Drove by Ford yesterday. They have the new turf sitting outside like rolls of carpet.
At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

Thank goodness we won't be able to set the field on fire now.

Just linked up a story on the home page (from the official SMU athletic site) - complete with pictures of the installation of the turf.

Awesome! can't wait to see the finished product..

any word on the endzone markings yet?

And has anyone seen any more of the new unis yet? On the official site, there is a picture of the 2003 program with a picture of the away uni, and red and also blue unis. Hmm...

When we had the first preview of the new unis, Coach Bennett said at that time that there would also be a red jersey in the mix. He did not elaborate as to when they might be worn. To the best of my knowledge, the blue jerseys are the home uni.

I'm not a big fan of red unis. I like the blue/white combo the way it is. And looking at the picture, the white and blue do look the sharpest. Red is almost overkill, even for a special uni.

I'm not a big fan of the red either. It may be okay for an occasional change of pace (aka ND's Green jerseys) but I think the blue is much better looking.

WTF? How can you not like the red jerseys???

It's the classic 50s/60s of SMU when the team was actually good and legal.

Of course, the people who don't like the red ones probably like the navy blue helment too.

i think it would be great to see the doak walker era uniform used for special games such as what notre dame does with their green jerseys, ou's retro uniform for their opener this yr, clemson's purple jersey, miami's orange or green home jerseys, etc.

the crimson helmet of that era was & is 'pure smu' - besides smu was one of the first to pioneer & use the red/crimson helmet.

BRING BACK THE GLORY DAYS OF SMU FOOTBALL!!!

For some strange reason, one of the few universities that REFUSE to use their school colors: Harvard Crimson & Yale Blue.

Navy is a blazer color. Red is a jersey color. We've had blase uniforms ever since Hayden Fry escaped to Denton. He put some pizzazzz in those Meanie Green uniforms... which they should bust out again. Can't say they weren't an eye-opener. They definitely look pretty high-schoolish right now. "North Texas" in script, North Texas in block, what next? And tcu would do well to dig deep in the cedar chest and pull out those lavender togs of the Billy Tohill era.
Seriously, Caoch Bennett has put together a classic uniform. I think the red jerseys would be an instant hit and maybe inspire some attendees to get off their laid-back a$$e$ and become fans like real football teams have.

Question.. does anyone know the difference between our A-Turf and FieldTurf?

I know that FieldTurf http://www.fieldturf.com is in a LOT of college and NFL stadiums as well as many soccer stadiums.. so why did we with a smaller company to install Ford Stadium's turf?

Some of the WAC teams with FieldTurf are Tulsa, Nevada, and Hawaii.

They don't have a complete website up yet, for what's it worth.
